Hey guys I been a member for a while now, but first time posting. A little background on me. I'm Austin and I'm a Mopar head. I currently own 68 Charger R/T 440 true 4spd, 68 Charger R/T Hemi true 4spd, 39 Plymouth truck, 74 Duster, 64 Polara 318 wide block, 56 Plymouth, 69 Roadrunner and Coronet, 01 Ram 2500 Gas swap, 06 PW, 12 PW, 86 Ram 150 4wd, 75 PW, and 82 Ram 150 2wd. I'm looking to buy a new truck, which is going to be a 2500. Just don't know which one I want. I had 2 diesels here is the story behind them lol. When I bought the 01 it had a 12V 5spd with the factory 24V in the bed with the factory 5spd. This was my first diesel and I must say what junk. It was just horrible all around. Pulled about the same as the 360 it has now except more lower end but not much (at least it seemed). Few years later I bought an 06 Cummins for 18,500 and it was ok but went to our local mall when it was -25. I had a portable engine heater and came out 2 hours later wouldn't start it was geled over. Took it to the dealer they said everything was fine with it so I sold it. Now I always liked the PW seeing as they have a winch. Coming can't put the winch behind the bumper because of the intercooler. I'm just looking for opinions on what to get. I tow occasionally and yes it's a lot of weight. My 360 pulls about 19,000 just fine with 4.10s. Up hills it screams sure but tops out at 45 but that's fine with me. Just looking for some input and stuff along those lines. Yes I know I'm over my "max" capacity but never had anything break on my gassers. Thanks :)

at 19,000 lbs you should be looking for a 3500 diesel. probably a dually.

That 01 had benefits you weren't considering, one of the best no nonsense engines around, and diesel gelling can be fixed easily with simple winter additives. You want to tow 19k with a gasser, you are just asking for trouble long term. I wouldn't however ever buy a new diesel, I would go back and find an 02, or even any of the HO era Cummins. Just an old truckers 2 cents worth. Manual as well, unless you get an allison behind you, your tranny likely will have a half life towing heavy.

I still have the engines and everything I was just never a diesel guy to be honest. Nothing imo sounds better then an American V8. Been touring with my 360 for about 5 years now other then the plenum no problems. Swapping a Hemi though. Any way of topic :b any problems with the newer trucks?

I believe diesel is what you need, but if you really want a gasser, find an older V-10.
