Caught a rock on my two month old R/T's windshield. Chip spread before I could get it fixed, so I had the windshield replaced. Now after replacing the windshield if I have the wipers set to auto rain sensing they make a single sweep at startup. It didn't do that before so SafeLite is going to replace the windshield because they think the windshield is defective. Just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience and if they had a diffrent resolution?

The windshields are different if they have the auto wipers. Maybe the wrong one got installed.

The windshield is for rain sensor. The sensor is installed and hooked up and kind of works as it should, just not like it did prior to the new windshield. Prior to the new windshield if the wipers were set to auto (rain sensing) the only time they moved was when moisture hit the windshield and the sensitivity was near perfect. Now, with the wipers set to auto, every time I start the truck they swipe the windshield once. Today we've been having a little tropical rain and the wipers aren't as sensative to moisture as they were new.

Humidity Sensor???

Had a windshield replaced in my NEW 2014 Ram Sport R/T the other day after catching a rock and getting one heck of a crack in the glass. I had a rain sensor windshield installed, but my rain sensor doesn't work like it did before. The glass installed is an OEM glass. When I look at the Safelite web site I see there are a couple of options, one includes rain sensor and humidity sensor. After looking at Ram web site info it seems to me that all 2014 Ram 1500s have a humidity sensor. Can anyone verify this??? I'm thinking this may be part of the rain sensor issue. Again, the glass installed only has the rain sensor, just not the humidity sensor.

Thanks for the reply. Neither the window sticker or build sheet show it. Ram's website says all 2014 1500s have it, I just don't know what it looks like or where it is located. I just want to get the correct windshield.

Rain Sensing Wipers Possible Fix

I just started on this forum after I had my windshield replaced by Safe Lite auto glass. Windshield is the correct OEM and rain sensing. However, like many of you my wipers would swipe on start up. After multiple inspections of the glass and consulting friends at Chrysler I ended up on the phone with Safe Lite. Extremely helpful! I talked to the executive team and we came to a possible conclusion that there is a gel pad that sticks everything back to the windshield that if not in the exactly correct position, or with a wrinkle or any imperfection could cause the rain sensor to "see" moisture if you will. Not sure if this is the fix. I will be inspecting the windshield again and Safe Lite will be returning to take their time and replace the gel pad. If this fixes my issue I will pass it on.

Safelite ended up installing a second windshield in mine due to the rain sending wipers making a single pass at start up. Happy to report everything has been fine since then! Good luck with your repair.

Just had windshield replaced 2015 Ram Longhorn. Now same problem with rain sensing wipers. Everytime I start the truck they give the windshield a swipe. Safelite says that is how they work... We all know that is not true. First they brought wrong windshield. Then they ordered OEM windshield. Will call local Dodge dealer for recalibration? Does that make sense to anyone?

I'm so old, I remember when you had to turn the knob on the DASH, by HAND. And it had two settings: "ON," and, "OFF." oji.gif

Tell Safelite to get another windshield! That's how they fixed mine. The tech said that they get defective / incorrectly installed rain sensors, even on the OEM glass. It took two OEM windshields to fix my problem.

We got a new windshield in July. Wife got hit by a rock two weeks ago. Smashed the windshield.
She wet to the glass shop and twitched out. Lol.
He was going to lower the price for her. Wife lost her cool. Got it free. Lol.
Next time you smash your windshield, call me. I'll send in my wife. Lol

If you were even OLDER, you'd remember having to feed your "car" oats and clean up the piles it left behind!

Fwiw there are apparently 4 different windshields on the truck. I think this is the problem I’m having. They installed the wrong windshield and this is why I am having the problem

I’ve got the same problem with the single wipe at start up and random phantom wipes (no moisture) with a factory windshield (never been replaced). It’s a Laramie with factory rain sensing option; not something I added.
Outside of changing the windshield, is there any other way to fix it?

Remember my '48 Buick had a big knob at the center of the split windshield that operated the wiper by hand.
No oats or fly infested piles, though.
