Has anyone analyzed how 'big' one can go with tires (without lift kits, spaces, modification)? There are currently 245/65/16s on there's gobs or room for more rubber. I'm not sure about the translation from a "33 x 12.5 x 16" to a ..."285/65/16", but I am more familiar with this latter format.

I read somewhere that a 285/65/16 was about as large as you can go without modification. I don't see any 285/55's...

I basically like to try and fill the wheel well with "tire", without rubbing. That means as tall as I can go but also as WIDE as I can go. A 285/65 seems tall & thin...

Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks,

Jay

Is this a 2wd or 4wd truck? And is it a 1500 or 2500?

Yes, these factors affect tire size.

How wide are the rims?

Sorry: 1500, 4x4. They are stock wheels... (see attached pic).

Thank you.

My '97 is almost identical to yours, same wheels as well. It had 285/75/16 A/T tires on when I bought it with no lift. There was a very slight rub on the control arm in a full lock turn. No rubbing anywhere else.

16x7 cast rims...285x75x16 is the safest size. Chances are they'll touch somewhere.

I've seen all kinds of stupid stuff though in the last 19 years...but because you can doesn't mean you should
