So I have 2004 5.7l Ram, but it just doesnt run like its got a Hemi. The acceleration on it sucks as well as the mpg. Before when I used to step on the gas, you would defenitely feel the kick from the torque and i used to get approximately 13.9 mpg and now I am down to 8.8 mpg. I have no idea what it is. My mechanic said changing out the spark plugs and wire would have it running back to normal and back to normal mpg I had or even better. I just had him change them out last week and there was no change in it, if anything worse. I have no performance mods on it, it is bone stock. And I have been trying to fix my truck for a long while now and havent been able to get any mechanic that actually fixed it that I am getting to the point where I am considering selling it even though I would really really realllllly hate to have to do that. Any tips, comments, advice would really help. Thanks.

How many miles are on the truck? Have you changed your air filter lately?

Clean the TB and do a hard reset on the PCM will also help you out.

I have another option for you on that throttle body. I am blowing out a batch of ported TB's, and currently have the 03-early 04 TB's at $239 shipped which is $150 off. This would not only give you a clean functioning TB, but add a little power and a boost in throttle response as well. Let me know if this is something you are interested in, and I will show you how to determine if you have an early or late 04 throttle body.

If you are just looking to get it back to running right and not dropping to much into performance mods, take off and clean the TB as was mentioned above, make sure everything that was due maintenance wise is done (trans, diff, oil, plugs) and AFTER it is all done do a full reset. Pull the battery cable and let it sit for 5-10min (unless you have emissions coming up, then hold off and reset after lol).

You can pull a hard reset as trucking states, by just touching the negative and the positive connections that go on the battery. Putting them together makes it quick and fast instead of waiting 5-15 minutes

Ok so I've done all of the above except the seafoam. I cleaned the TB today and it was pretty filthy. Also I found a lot of oil on it. I got the TB cleaned but there was still oil remaining like as if that is wht the engine was sucking the oil thru the TB. I don't know much about motor stuff but it Defenitely didn't seem right to me. I called my mechanic and told him about the oil in the TB and he said that it is normal for vehicles that are getting closer to the 100k miles(I'm going to 94k). Sounded like ******** to me but oh well. So I told him what the next step was to get my truck running back up again as normal and he said that nothin is wrong with it "IF" no lights are coming up on the dashboard or whatever, again sounded like ******** to me because what if something is wrong with the truck and the fuse for the part the messed up is out? So pretty much I don't know what else to do, I've gone thu several mechanics and truck still isn't fixed. This current mechanic has been working with a Chrysler dealership for like 15 years or so and according to him he has all o his training up to date on all vehicles :/

Oh and the spark plugs are champion platinum

check and make sure you have good compression on all cylinders. Sounds a bit more than a cleaning to me

And def change those plugs to copper. Either champion or ngk5306. Many threads on all the forums about only running copper plugs in our trucks

Does champion platinum going to champion copper really make much of a difference?

About the compression on the cylinders, you just check it by applying the gauge to the spark plug??
