Has anyone noticed that there tends to be varied time in which the display (8.4”) boots up?

Sometimes it’s fast, other times seems like you just wait.

Today, I waited 5-7 secs before anything even displayed.

Anyone have an explanation? Normal?

My 2016 does that once in a while. Seems more likely to happen if I drop it into reverse immediately after startup—it acts like the boot sequence gets interrupted so the backup cam can display, then completes the boot up normally once out of reverse.

Mine also seems more prone to this than it was when new. Maybe an after-effect of all the flash updates that have been done?

Best,
DG

Even my RA-5 (uConnect 5 - no cams, no GPS, no lots-of-things) takes around 30 seconds to boot up fully. OTOH, I should mention that it takes nearly exactly the same amount of time, almost every time, sometimes taking a bit longer if it's hella cold (under 10 deg. F) outside.

I’m sure part of it is that they used a $10 processor from 1987.

Mine has been doing that off and on for the last 6 months. It can take 5 minutes for it to come on. Thankfully the A/C still works fine in Manual or Auto even though the lights don't come on. Seems to be getting worse with the heat too.

Seems normal. The 8.4 in both my Ram and my Viper both boot sometimes almost instantly, sometimes 30 seconds or more.

As an FYI, I drove the Viper today for the first time in a month. After start up, it took at least a minute for the screen to boot up from blank. Driving around after a couple stops, for C&C, and gas, it booted almost instantly.

So, the 8.4 can indeed be quirky.

The initial startup was from fully shut down. It sounds like the subsequent ones were from more of a “sleep” state.
