Hi all maybe this has already been addressed but I cant seem to find it.
I have a 2004 ram quad cab 4x4 hemi with 26 gal tank this happened last march and now has started again. what is happening is that when I go to fill but with fuel the pump keeps shutting and fuel comes shooting out the filler hole. It tough filling up you have to pump so slow that you cant even set the nozzle on the first automatic click with out causing isses.

that I tried last year was knocking out the check valve in the tank and it was fine all summer now that its cold out again its back.

over the last 30 or so hours I let it sit in a heated area of my work and then drove to gas station to try it everything seems to work better but it still kicked the pump off after ever couple gallons of fuel were put in which is better than last week where it was kicking the pump off right away

please help thanks

Pull apart the filler hose. Check for any of them plugged or kinked. Also make sure your putting the nozzle in the truck properly.

Does anything change of you were to angle it to one side or another? I believe there are 2 fill tubes

Sounds silly but do you use the same gas station every time our does it happen at every station.

mulit different pumps and different stations nozzle all the way in or half out and angle does not make any difference its just fine and acts normal in warm weather I will try to pull filler neck this week and see but that doesn't seem right being it work when warm weather I also thought about trying different grade of fuel as here in Minnesota they switch to a winter blend I think I am using the low grade 87 so might try something different now that fuel is a bit less but still makes my mind crazy on how that would be an issue

It's probably the filler tube inlet check valve. My '06 did the same thing and I had it fixed under recall.

I just had the same problem. Last week I hear a rattle/ clunk when going over a bump on the drivers side. I can't find anything loose. Go to fill up yesterday ng, can only get a little bit of gas in before it kicks off. I look down the filler neck all clear. I dropped the truck off to my mechanic today and I will have it back later in the week. He has seen this before and thinks its a cloged valve. For me it is strange the clunking and no unable to fill up. I will let you know how I make out. My truck is also on 04 slt 5.7 with 76000 miles.

Blew out the lines and all is good. The rattle was a loose shock.
