Yesterday I ordered a new Big Horn. I've had Ford's and Chevys and I enjoyed them all (for the most part). I just read about the "Brake Noise". What is that and is there a solution yet?

I am interested in hearing perspectives of other new to Ram owners, and suggestions regarding what I should to right off the bat to maximize my enjoyment and utility of this truck. I'll be using it to launch a 29' boat and light off road use (the beach at Hatteras) but most for tooling around town and highway trips.

4x4
v8 non-eTorque
3.21 rear end
crew cab, short box
Level 2 equipment
20" wheels
8.4 inch screen
bucket seats
pano sunroof
floor mats
9 speaker stereo w sub.

That's about it on extras, pretty basic. No LED's, towing group, off-road group, sport, North edition, etc. No bedliner group or running boards.

Back and forth on the color, finally settled on Billet Silver. They tell me that Dodge has already assigned in a VIN the day after I ordered it, so hopefully, it will be here soon. Yes, I paid too much. I looked forever and this truck does not exist. In order to get close, I would have had to buy a ton of stuff that I don't want, and paid all that extra money. So, I paid too much for the one I got. If this truck treats me like my last 3 Chey's, I will be happy. They weren't perfect, but I ran all of them to 200K. Stuff breaks.

Congrats! Sounds very similar to the one I'm going to order in a couple of weeks. This will be my first Ram as well. Do you think ordering the truck hurt you on cost?

Someone along the line the manufacturer for our brake pads had a bad batch which would cause once the vehicle sat to make an obnoxious sound when backing up. Sadly this is only one part as other have reported when driving and going to push on the brakes a “ high “ pitched squeal. They have TSB out on these and some who have had this done say it comes right back.

Glenn54,

I assume that it did. I am not a new car buyer. This is my first. What I found was the truck I wanted doesn't exist. I looked at several states and all the local dealerships. What I found is that there is a mess of trucks reasonably close, but all were equipped with stuff that I don't want, and that most of that stuff is very expensive. I don't want to waste 5 grand on items that don't interest me.

But when you order a car from scratch, the dealers don't really want to work with you. They'd rather sell you a truck on their lot that is costing them money. So, they are in no mood to discount the price on a truck that you order.

So, either way, I was going to pay too much. But doing it this way got me the exact truck I want, not one that's "pretty close".

Congrats on the new truck. I bought mine last June. I did have some brake noise in the beginning. From the research I did at the time there was no fix for it. From what I was finding the best advice was to drive it and it would stop after breaking it in a bit. Sure enough it did stop... it slowly went away. I think by around 2,000 miles it was totally gone.
