Plan on doing some work on my truck (oil pan/reverse lights ) which is an 02 4.7 4*4 with manual tranny.b ought it a year ago and finally am at a spot to spend the money to bring her up above par. It's a bit rusty and needs some fixing up but it's fun to drive and I want to bring up to better than new interior wise exterior wise and performance wise.ive done a lot of reading and have some ideas but questions as well. I was thinking about the clutch fan but I read that I would have to run my a/c in order to make it work in which case I feel like the two cancel each other out? I also plan to off-road and hill climb this summer and the consensus seems to be that it will over heat without the clutch fan.

Maybe moving the iat and I saw something about more voltage to the tps that I'd like to know more about. Can I do anything else with the intake or would I need a tune to get a difference.

Long term (by 2019) plan on doing
08 intake manifold
4 56 gears(not sure if I'll get the same/better/worse results with my manual tranny)
SCT tune
72 mm throttle body
True dual exhaust ( I think 2 1/4 is what folks have had the best results with?)
Possible custom making a ram air intake
Cams( I read there's availability issues though)
A few other ideas that I'll reveal after I post up my 0-60 ;).....unless theyre high af

Any more ideas/suggestions for either this weekend tinker time or the long term ? Post em up

I am in the same boat trying to maximize the 4.7l puppy power. Almost everyone will say that the best place to look for performance parts and to find power is listed on this website.

Not many other mods available for the 4.7
If you do the True dual exhaust I would be very interested in hearing the process and what you decide to use.

Before you blow a bunch of loot on bolt on’s, I would pull the valve covers and have a peak at the timing chains to make sure they aren’t slapping around in there. If you want to do the stuff you posted with the truck I’d make sure the top/bottom end are up to par.

Definitely noted, so maybe the long term will be a motor swap? I read a lot of things about how resilient the 4.7s to are up until you start digging into forced induction. So I guess I thought despite the age and miles, it could handle it. I will definitely check out the timing chain this weekend and hopefully I like what I see.

Yes, they are ok on their own but once you start adding power is when she starts *******. But I have seen some very successful builds of the 4.7’s but that also included $$$

Oh wow, thanks for the link, lots of good info I would have gone on there sooner but i just assumed it was just a parts store. I'll likely start a build thread when I start really dolling her up.

I too have the 4.7 and I noticed a big increase in power after a Superchips 91 octane tune, cold air intake and exhaust headers. I would recommend adding headers to your exhaust plans. I'm my opinion, the true potential of aftermarket exhaust is wasted when the OEM manifolds are left in place.

Also, ditch the sloppy factory shifter. Look up Core Shifters and get a Hurst short throw shifter, you will enjoy rowing the gears more than you do now.

I keep seeing people saying to stick with the stock exhaust manifold but it's nice to see another side, what do you got hooked up to em? As for the short throw ill be sure to look into that

I have Gibson stainless headers and am very pleased with them. The 4.7 gains power by moving more air in and out, how much power depends on how much you want to spend. Headers will run anywhere from $400 to $600.
