So, our good Ol' 'Mercian trucks use all metric hardware. :flipthebird::flipthebird::flipthebird:

I don't have any metric sockets. Guess I will have some new ones this weekend. Started my light bar install and it suddenly stopped because most of my junk is SAE.

BTW, those outside bolts holding the tow hooks on look like they will be a ***** to get off due to lack of space.

Its the global standard across all manufacturers to use metric now, domestic, import, European, British etc.

Yea, you're right only the older cars use sae sizes. I'm pretty sure everything new uses metric.

almost everything is metric these days. you have to remember a lot of the parts are being built in countries that use metric so it's just easier.

most socket sets will give you the most common sizes which are basically just the even numbers so 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and so on. the odd numbers aren't used very often but there's a few exceptions

Seeing as essentially everywhere on earth uses metric except for the states, makes a fair bit of sense. Good thing about it is I can bring my metric sockets and wrenches home from work to work on my truck, and if I don't bring them back right away it doesn't really matter anyways since our rigs use hardly anything metric, despite us being a canuckian manufacturer

I just picked up a set of metric Impact sockets from Craftsman. 12-27 iirc.

I have 99% SAE everything since I had a nice '72 K5 Blazer the used all SAE tools.

American OEs have been using Metric fasteners since the 70s. Don't believe me? My co-workers are all old and worked on em. haha

Most manufacturers ship their products worldwide now so it makes more sense to use metric to satisfy 90% of the world. Plus all the reasons everyone said. Once you get use to metric it's actually a lot easier to use.

I don't know whens the last time a sae socket.

I assembled a tire rack last week which used SAE bolts, that's when I realized that I didn't actually have a full set of SAE sockets, apparently I've lost some in my moves. Shows how often I actually use them.

I, too, prefer metric over SAE - so much simpler to use one set for my wife's van AND my truck, along with all the other assorted BS around the house.

That reminds me - I need some new tools. ;-)

Anyone remember the days when the body hardware was metric and the mechanical was SAE? good times.

YES!!! And I hated it. I work on a lot of GM 80's cars and they are king of that, makes me nuts.

...oh, yea, I remember, for GM it was about '76 or '77 ....some of the early metric bolts were coated light blue...:)

Good to know! I just thought it was a coincidence that almost everything I work on, happens to be metric.
