I'm running the 87 tune on my superchips. I wanted to try the 91 tune but the highest octane sold here is 90. Can I run the 91 with the 90 in the tank? Will running 90 with the 87 tune make a difference? Or should I just stick with 87 all around. Sucks cause when I bought the tuner never paid attention to the kind of gas sold here until now.

If you load the Performance tune it does require 91 octane. I would think 90 octane would be close enough to be ok. With the 87 octane tune you could run higher octane fuel, but you would be wasting your money. I also have the SuperChips performance tune loaded, I run premium 93 octane fuel. I could run it down to 3/4 or 1/2 tank and refill with 87 octane and it would still be ok. I run only 93 octane because I also get better economy with it.

I towed several hundred miles the other week with a Diablo T1000 Tuner set to a 93oct tune, running 92.

I had no problems nor symptoms of anything. Did not notice a lack of power either.

I take no responsibility of your hardware/components should you choose to run it :)

Do a test tank. Run it as empty as you can, put in 1/4 tank of 90. Load the 91 tune. Drive it around normally for a few minutes. Data log short term knock retard and long term knock retard, then while logging take it for a spirited run with some wide open runs. Check your log and see your results. You want 0 long term, and short term should remain 0 most of the time, you'll see we during the shift, and usually at the bottom of 2nd gear after the shift. Less than 3 degrees is ideal. More than that means you need higher octane.

From what I've seen, canned superchips tunes aren't that aggressive and you should be able to get away with it. But that's the proper way to find out.
