I know there are multiple posts on this. However, I wanted to see what the latest thinking is on oil change frequency for this 12 hemi. From the dealer it was tagged to be changed in 5,000 miles. Is that about what you guys are doing?

Also I've seen a premium synthetic oil that references a 15,000 mile interval. Thoughts?

And last - can I run 30 on the top number here in Florida? Or do I absolutely have to run 20 weight?

Thx & cheers.

I change mine at 8000 kms, I guess that's roughly 5000 miles. I wouldn't go 15,000kms let alone miles before changing my oil!

Penzoil full synthetic is what I use

Ten thousand on a good brand full synthetic should be doable, but I change mine every 5000 to 6000 miles just for extra peace of mind. Is it wasting a bit of $$$? Probably, but its my money to waste. :)

Coming from the Auto Industry, the technology and advancements in oils today are great! However the bottleneck is still the filter, maintaining good filtration and flow properties.

Oil in itself isn't just a lubricant, but a cleaner and form of coolant now as well. Hence why some engines being developed have piston squirters to help cool the piston off even. These are all reasons as to why crankcase capacities have grown over the last 15-20 years.

That being said, even though I use a full synthetic I still change my oil and rotate my tires every 5,000 miles regardless. Quicker I can exchange for fresh oil, and get the dirty oil out the healthier she will be! Now I do understand at some point there needs to be a trade off to make the synthetic cost feasible and I feel 5K is a good interval for that. Could you do sooner, yes you can I just feel you're not getting longevity from your oil upgrade.

my dealer has me down for every 3months / 3,000 miles . I think the book says 5,000 [reg oil] but up here in new England with the diff. in temps ,roads we drive etc. even the dealers think 3,000 is enough . I have always done it at the 3,000 mile mark but I do tend to go over the 3 months just because I don't drive a lot and takes me a little longer to get the mileage I do check it off and on . I have thought of changing to syn. but not really sure if its worth it for me or not or even a advantage to it .

If you're going to change it at 5k you might as well just use conventional oil. I change full synthetic at 8500 miles. I use a fram ultra synthetic filter.

I am pretty much going to follow the OLM...
Once the OLM drops below 5% oil life I will change the oil the first chance I get... The Oil that I will be using can easily go 10K-12K miles with my driving habits... If Amazon keeps it in stock!

Maybe I can make it 1 full year! No use dumping out oil that still has plenty of TBN & Additives Left!

I will always try to change the oil before winter {Preferably the End of Nov}...It normally don't get into the 20s until Dec!

Well it took me about 8 months to put 4,000 miles on mine so I figured that was long enough. Otherwise, I'd probably wait to 5 or 6,000 miles.

First oil change, right after break in period. After that, Mobil One full syn, about every 5-6k miles.

Now that ours is tow-only, it only does about 10K Km's a year so I change it once a year in the spring (Amsoil XL).

How long will it take to have a simple method that measures TBN # to determine when to change motor oil
based on combustion contamination?

Thx Hemihustlin. I read till you opted out Syn. :) By then my coffee was cold. A 5 is a 5 on start up. I'm just looking at the top number for the Florida heat, idling in traffic.
