Hi everyone,

I have a friend with a 2019 Laramie black edition that was wondering when his first oil change should be. When I bought my 2014 ram sport I was told by the dealer to get the oil changed at 1500 miles. Then after that it should be every 8-10k miles with full synthetic oil.

What is the oil change intervals with the 2019 hemi engine?

His dealer service dept recommended coming in at 7k miles. He currently has 5800 miles on the odometer

I’m not sure what to believe

Tell him to look in the owner's manual for the recommended oil change intervals. I believe it's 10k miles for normal use. It is less for severe service, but I'm not sure how much less. I changed the oil at 1k miles on my last Ram, then every 10k miles with full-synthetic oil. I plan to do the same on my new truck.

Owner's manual is 10K mile oil change intervals.

As for the first oil change you will get varying opinions on how long the "factory" fill is good for. I wanted to change it at 5K but didn't get to it until 7.5K. After seeing what came out I would have been comfortable with 10K for the first change.

I did my first oil change at about 2500. I will probably do them every 7 to 8k from here on, using full synthetic. Again, I strongly recommend Pennzoil Ultra Platinum(because they contribute to my retirement).

Unless you do a lot of idling or exceed a year between changes, anything less than about 7500 miles on a full synthetic oil is a waste of money.

Do the trucks come with Synthetic or standard oil?

I'm not sure if it's conventional oil or a synthetic blend for the factory fill. I do know that it is not full synthetic.
