Redline 5w30 is hemi honey for sure, but if you have warrany concerns PUP or PP 5w20 is the most used oil on the board, m1 is second but doesn't have the hemi spec, Pennzoil does. Read my oil filter thread in my sig as well. You need to make a decision, do I use what oil I want for my equipment, or do I use what the manu tells me too, they aren't the same oil. Either strategy is just fine, it is a personal choice, do some research.

Let the dealer do the first oil change. The oil filter at the factory is torqued by a 800lb gorilla(really a robot) to about 1000 ft pds.(that might be exaggerated a little but not much) It is usually a real PIA to remove the first time. You can DYI after the first change if you like.

Hi,
Cool color on the truck. What the heck is that? It’s not the rugged brown, is it? I just ordered one, and rugged brown is unavailable now. I don’t recall seeing that color on the Ram build site.

No issues with the MDS and the 5W30 instead of 5W20?

I have the dealer do all of my oil changes because they are free.

I do it myself unless it absolutely has to be done and the weather simply won't let me do it. Too many bad experiences in the past with either quicklube places or dealers. There is a local mobile oil change dude who I've considered though.

I ran Valvoline full-synthetic (not modern engine) 0W20 in my 2013 and it served me well. Never had an issue with tick on that truck, and 80K without an issue. So I plan on doing the same in the 2019. I run 0W20 because most of my drives are relatively short, and I want the best oil performance at startup I can get. During winter, engine may not get up to temp on some drives.

What is your recommended interval for changes? I tow a 17' boat around 1500 miles a year, nearly all other trips are 5-20 miles one way.
If your running a full synthetic, put at least 7500 miles(don't exceed 12 months). Working an engine while towing/hauling and driving distances is better for oil verses short trips where the oil does stay at operating temps.
