I have a gen 2, 5.9 with 129,000. Owned 20 years. Was used for towing my RV but no longer. My manual calls for 7,500 mile oil change based on light conditions. It's been VERY light conditions for the last 5 years. (Home Depot and back)
Does Rotella, get acidic like regular automobile oil? For my use it's all about time intervals. Your input is appreciated

Your owner's manual should give an OCI based on mileage and time. Such as 7500 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. I would never run any oil past one year oil change intervals. You could submit oil samples for analysis if you really want to stretch your OCI's though.

I just purchased the rotella synthetic. Good for a LONG time. Not cheap, but will eliminate an oil change for as long as I plan to own it.

I used Rotella T-6 in my old 2006 5.9 CTD and based on using it for over 10 years in that engine, my self I would change the oil out every 12 months or 7500 miles which ever comes first unless you have UOA that tells you otherwise.

It's still motor oil in an internal combustion engine. It's folly to think you can find any kind of oil that eliminates oil changes, even in low mileage engines.

Beat me to it. Maybe get an extra 3000 - 4000 miles from some super high-end oil, but that's about it. Anyone thinking they can go 25,000 miles between changes is going to get left on the side of some remote dirt road with banjo music in the background.

My Hemi parked most of the time. I do 5,000 oci. But had less than 3800 miles for a year so it got changed and added lube guard biotech for good measure

Thanks T bird; I ended up using rotella synthetic 10-40. 10 years or 300,000 miles.
I'll be dead and gone before another change.

I agree with what your saying. A bit of sarcasm, but when Rotella says, 10 years or 300,000 miles on their 10/40 synthetic, it fits my needs. My truck is a '94 with 129,000 miles. I no longer put much more than 2,000
miles a year. If Rotellas claim is even half their claim with their good reputation it fits my needs and don't think I'll be stuck on the road side.

I can't imagine any oil states that you can go 10 years or 300,000 miles before a change...and if they do, I would run, not walk away from that oil manufacturer!!!

I don't see a Rotella full synthetic diesel oil in 10w-40 even listed on the Rotella website. They do make a synthetic blend in that weight though. But I don't see a ridiculous 10 year/300,000 mile OCI claim anywhere on the site. Not that I expected to see one.

Pretty sure you are reading that wrong...

I'm just going guess you are talking about their warranty. It clearly states you have to follow manufacture. e.g. changing the oil at least every year.
Also they are talking about big diesel engines.

That is the Shell Rotella lubrication warranty. You still have to follow the recommended OCIs but it covers specific engine parts if they fail due to lubrication issues during the time period that you exclusively use Rotella T4 or T5 diesel engine oil (up to 300,000 miles and 10 years).

This is how they get you to buy their product...and keep buying it.

Here's my $0.02.....

If one runs their vehicle (engine) 0 to x-amount under the OEM recommended OCI intervals in a 12-month period.....

At the very least (gas or diesel engine).... change the oil and filter with premium synthetic oil and an equally premium synthetic media oil filter once per year, period!!!

This is the absolute cheapest insurance one could ever account for in ones vehicle ownership experience.

This is just my $0.02 opinion and means zero to the OP in the long run ;)

Should one wish to substantiate further.... send the the OCI sample to a credited analytical lab and have it substantiated, and post up for scrutiny by the brain trust herein ;)!!!!!!

^^^^^^^^^^^^ DITTO ^^^^^^^^^^^^^, Op U R mis-reading. U gotta change at regular OCI/or time periods, not stay in there forever on a single application.

U misreading about that warranty is. Re-read and be aware, U gotta change as required either mileage/or time interval. Anything after a years time needs an OCI (oil change w/filter) done period.

ADDED: I do OCI interval of 5K on oil but if I hit a year, than gets changed. Too much moisture and stuff gets trapped in there. Also I rotate my tires every OCI also, but my goal is 5K changes/rotations.
