Oil Dipstick

Would it work to measure the length of tube that was cut off, and cut the same length off the dipstick itself, and call it good?

Would depend on how much was cut, may get blow back or splash out.

Anyone have a good idea on how a sleeve of some sort like a union to connect the dipstick back together where I cut it?

How about a union?
As in compression union. If you can find the correct size. The ferrels (sp?) will seal it and you can unscrew it and put it back as you need to. You can get these at Home Depot or Lowes.
