Anyone have a good idea on how a sleeve of some sort like a union to connect the dipstick back together where I cut it? :emotions122:

Hope you used a tubing cutter and not any type of saw.
I'd just buy a new tube, even if you pay a tech to install it.

Mine didn't seem hard to get to (at least, once I realized it was bolted near the bottom....lol)

But mine is a 2wd also. Is it different for a 4wd?

My problem was I jacked around with it for so long trying to pull it by hand. Once I figured to clamp a small pair of curved-jaw vise-grips LIGHTLY right above the base and tap them upward, the tube popped out in about 10 seconds.

I knew someone would, my truck is lifted and one of the lift brackets installs on the three bolts that’s by the engine mount and completely covers access to the dipstick bolt without disassembling the lift component and then it all getting out of line along with the engine mount on that side. When my headers failed, I didn’t have time to go back and put it on the lift and let it sit there for 6 weeks as the lift is at the farm and we need it for equipment. So I cut it and at the time in my head I figured I could measure the OD and buy a union to join the pieces back, and it was a clean cut with a very small pipe cutter.

The 4x4 has a bracket for the diff that makes it almost inpossible to get at it.

Yep and when you lift it, a lot of companies bracket goes there and does make it impossible without taking everything apart

I just did a 6.4 swap and in the process the old dipstick wouldny come out of the old block. So i ordered a new one to go in. Needless to say it sucked to put in. I should have went with a lokar flexible locking dipstick instead.

if it's not leaking/blowing oil out where it's cut and I was in your situation I'd order the correct part just to have on hand to install if I had another reason to take it all apart. Then I'd look/make something to work in the mean time. Depending on where it's cut possibly make a shorter dipstick for it. If that wouldn't work I'd get some thin sheet aluminum cut it into a 1 1/2 wide or so strip and wrap it around the cut off piece a couple of times and use it like a coupling with a couple small hose clamps.

Does it use any oil? Most of my stuff uses so little I seldom bother to check it I change my own so I know how much I put in and change it 5000 miles later and don't worry about it. The Subaru does use a little but it has a light that comes on when it's low which usually happens between 4000 to 4500 miles so I just add a little to get to the next change. So the truth of the matter is I'd probably order a new tube and wait until I had another reason to take it apart and not worry about the old one. Maybe keep a quart of oil in the truck in case it got a little low and the oil light/gauge started flickering going around sharp corners or stopping.

Suggest taking it to a mechanic and have them fix it right if not something you want to do. Splicing it is just creating the weakest link in your all-important engine lubrication process.
.....so,so sorryand good luck with it...

I would have to look , but I presume it is common pipe, if so and you get at the cut, I would try a piece on 3/8 copper pipe, or steel line that will slide over, or slice and make a good fit, clean everything flux and solder with a big ass soldering iron, or a plumbers torch if you know what you are doing.
Have water handy. But all this may be as much work as a new one

How much did you cut? Is is possible to just replace the dipstick instead?

I would do a temp fix with a thin piece of allum or rubber with a few hose clamps. Then order the dipstick and do it when you do the next work on the truck

Would it work to measure the length of tube that was cut off, and cut the same length off the dipstick itself, and call it good?
