I put synthetic oil in my truck today and I am noticing the oil temp is running an average of 7 degrees hotter than with conventional oil and my engine temp is running about 3 degrees warmer. Is this normal? Do I need to worry about this? The oil temp is about 219 and engine temp about 212 running in the hiway.

I am not trying to be insulting in any way by asking this but... Are you sure you put the correct amount of proper weight oil in? Also what oil and filter did you use?

5/20 pennzoil synthetic premium and and wix xp filter. The oil pressure is running what is was before the oil change. With the truck sitting still the oil temp drops to 206 to 207 and engine temp drops too.

Muz: Mine runs around 215 in town once at operating temp... Around 217-223 on the interstate --75-80mph.... I want my oil around 200 or higher-->Evaporates all the moisture and cooks out any carbon that has built up during the very few short trips...

These were my oil temps! My coolant temp stays around 203-210... Our summers average 100-114*F so coolant gets worked...

These temps are different when I tow our TT...

I was just concerned because of the higher temp difference between the synthetic and conventional oil. What you said makes sense.

Odd that your coolant temp is above 200 mine never goes over 197 hwy or city. I know we have grill shutters that close on the hwy to reduce drag but still do not think it should be that high. I could also have a temp sensor that is a little off.
