Which oil weights are you using ?
5qts-5w30, 2qts-10w30

please also answer the following:

Model year?
2018

Miles?
18,100

Miles between changes?
7-8k

Conventional or synthetic?
full synthetic

Any lifter failures?
no

Any abnormal tick?
no, nothing on cold or hot start after using 2 qts of 10w30. I had a cold start tick with the factory fill when the truck sat for more than 3/4 days like a long weekend. Definitely a lifter tick with factory fill with bleed down over periods of time with the 5w20 factory blend.

My last one, a 2012 4.6 4x4 failed at about 56,000. The ticking came on gradually but the real deal was when the lower end went. The dealer said they were replacing the upper valve train and I knew it was not the valves, I traded before they did the work. I did not know I could extend the warranty once they opened the motor up. I would have kept it with a guarantee as I only had 4000 left on the original warranty.

Schaeffers 9000 5-20w oil, WIX/XP filter, 7500 miles.

I had a 2007 5.7liter and ran heavier oil than specified (thinking it was better for the engine) and that motor developed a tick at 60,000 miles. I replaced lifters and pushrods (2 pushrods were shorter) and after that I always ran the specified oil weight NEVER HEAVIER !!!

I do a tire rotation at the same time as OC. so the 6500 to 7000 interval works well
