Did anyone that switched to 5-30 oil have an MDS error?
I have a 2010 hemi and am hesitant about switching due to an MDS issue.

5W20 Mobil 1 here with a Mobil 1 filter. I've used Mobil 1 in every vehicle I have owned since 1987.

? type of oil for the new 2018 5.7
called two dealers. one said full synthetic, One said synthetic blend, and some manufacturer number
I called said 5W-20. and never said anything about synthetic.
she did say ApI, ms- 6395
but no one could tell me what the truck came with.
My manual states 5-30w synthetic. I just changed it this last weekend to 0-40w Mobil 1. LOL
I have the same in my 2011 2dr. Rubicon and wife's 2015 GC.
In my opinion, the 5-20w flows too thin at operating temperature. I live in Texas so
a thicker at operating temperature is better.
Just my .02.

I have been using PUP 0W-20 and Royal Purple filters. However on my next change at 25k miles I am thinking of going to PUP 5W-30. Does anyone know if Royal Purple makes a larger filter for our trucks other than the stock recommended 10-48?

You guys using k&n oil filters keep a check on them that they don't start leaking. I had used k&n for years untill the first one I put on my Hemi leaked, not using them anymore. Also, the nut is not for installation, it's for removal only.

YEPPP, agreed..!!! I used K&N twice on my previous 2014 hemi truck, both K&N oil filters leaked, badly. Buddy of mine at work used K&N on his hemi truck, same problem, started leaking from day one. No more K&N products for me. I`ve since switched to Mobil premium (synthetic) oil filters... first thing i notice, the anti-drainback designed into their filters are the best i`ve ever seen. My cold starts have INSTANT oil pressure on an actual analog gauge, which tells me that the oil is not draining back into the oil pan like most oil filters seem to do, even though they tell you that they dont drain back. The K&N was actually the worst for draining back. I use Pennzoil Platinum 5w20. I`m not a snake oil fan, pennzoil is what they recommend, thats what i`ll use. Buy a 5qt jug at wal-mart $22 each. I usually buy 3 of the 5qt jugs at a time, because i have a hemi RT charger to feed too.

I just did my first oil change and went with Lucas 5W/30 synthetic, and a K&N oil filter. I hate the location of the filter... it dripped oil all over the steering module. The K&N filter at least has a nut that makes it easier to remove when the time comes.

You do realize, that the 5w30 will effect how your MDS mode works, right..?
Watch that K&N oil filter, they are KNOWN to leak!

On the K&N filter, the rubber seal ring is not crimped in the canister like the Amsoil and RP filters.

How does it affect the MDS? In my manual is says that 5W-30 is recommended in severe duty and heavy towing.
Reading online it shows that using 5-30 in the 2010 4x2 will cause an MDS error until it's changed back to 5-20, but no other info. Was wondering if anyone had run into this problem.

RP 20-820 will fit and is larger.

Poll, 1/2 the forum uses heavier oil then 5w20 and I have been doing it for 5 years, no CEL no issues. One guy said he had an issue, but no follow up, and most guys have been running heavier oil even 40 weights in the 5.7 with no issues. I'm not saying I recommend it, but they are doing it.
