5w20=cam failure. Recommended oil is only to get the mpg average they said truck would get. 5w30 ppl notice less cam failures or none. But I wouldn’t use 5w20

So you wouldn't use the oil weight recommended by the manufacturer? Could that cause issues with warranty repairs/claims in the future?

from what I’ve read and heard they don’t check. They may ask you but obviously don’t say you put in wrong oil to them. These engines should of never ran 5w20. But again the agenda wasn’t to make sure the engines last. Just gain mpg

These engines can develop a tick. On the top side. Not a manifold tick. And a lot of members have said when they used better oil like redline 5w30 or mixing half 5w30 and 10w30 the tick goes away or gets a lot quieter. Which can save cam issues or valves or whatever else that can go wrong

That's fine and all but as long as my truck is under factory warranty I am using the oil they recommend. That way if that or another issue does come up the service department can't tell me the issue was caused by using the wrong oil or I voided my warranty by using the wrong oil. Not saying they would, but not going to give them that opportunity.

Just for the record the 5.7 Challengers with a manual transmission call for 5W-30.Same engine except the stick cars don't have MDS lifters.

That’s fine and all while under warranty, but 60k miles on oil that doesn’t get the job done, is going to cause damage to part, that are proven to fail between 75k-100k.

Is 5w20 fine on 5.7 2500s? Since no mds

5.7 2500’s call for 5W-30 actually, it is in the manual. My 2016 5.7 specified 5W-30 for 2500 with a 5.7
