So again I have a new to me 2016 with 102200 miles, I have read thru the posts and am needing a oil change. Our mechanic stated I may want to add/replace one quart with Lucas oil stabilizer. Lucas has a base oil and synthetic stabilizer. The reason is because my truck may sit from a couple days to a week or two with out being driven and the Lucas would coat or last longer on the top. Basicaly helping with dry starts. Does anyone do this?

Thanks,

Redline 5w30 with royal purple 20820 filter. my truck has sat 9.5 days straight. first start back was perfect. 7300 miles on redline gave a great used oil analysis where i can push that to 9 to 9500 miles next oci.

Yeah I looked at RP 20820 and it said it did not fit but if I understand right it's just the big brother to the 10-48 which is whats recommenced. The Lucas again is supposed to specifically hold or help hold lubrication on top. We mix it with our Fire control tractor plows now during summer maintenance.

Thanks,

yes bigger than 1048. should fit. my truck is a 14. go check out the syn oil thread. good info on additives. no need for additives if you have the right oil. these hemis need molybdenum. so make sure of that

I used redline and I now use PUP that I buy through amazon for a quarter of the price. Neither have given me issues. Had factory oil and truck would squeal bad on startup even after only a couple hours of sitting.

Get a new mechanic, LOL. Lucas is an oil thickner, it is the last thing you want for dry start ups. You would want an oil thinner before an oil thickner for dry starts, not saying I believe in oil thinners. Molybnenum is what you want for dry starts, read here. Redline has the most moly, but additives such as lubegard's biotech also can add moly to whatever oil you use. The viscosity ram chose for Ram's is 9 at operating tempature, some guys opt for oils with a viscosity of 12 for a little extra protection at operating temps, Lucas has an operating viscosity over 100. Literally the only thing lucas would help is in older engines that have ring damage. It is 4 times thicker then 75w140 gear oil. Why would you run that in a mds engine? You are asking for a sludge problem with this stuff. The juice aint worth the squeeze for this, the trade off of percieved benefit can really cost you.

When you turn your car off the engine is hot, all base oils drain down off hot metal. Ester base oils have the best chance at sticking, so ester might help. The things that work to stick to metal are additives other then base oil. The group of additives that are used for this are called EP additives. Additionally they also have AW additives that also may leave some protection behind. Research aw/ep additives if you want something other then moly for some reason.

Thanks guys for the quick replies that's why I appreciate this forum. Burla that's why I was asking about the lucas your answer is appreciated. By our mechanic I'm referencing work not personal, I do as much as I can before going anywhere. I was searching the forum on oils to give me an idea of whats worked for our 4th gens. Brought it up during our summer maintenance that is when the suggestion for the Lucas came up, I hadn't heard of anyone doing that before.

20191009_161053.jpg 20191009_161538.jpg 20191009_161549.jpg So this started so well, then trying to get to the oil filter and PIA. Not sure what was in it but the oil had a reddish tinge and not sure but it didn't feel like regular base oil like I thought the dealership uses. Whaaaat ever she's good to go now. Really appreciate the forum if anyone new reads this I recommend using nick@goexhaust for the Redline great price and fast shipping.

I'm gonna try to let this go for 7500 to bring me to an even 101000 then every 5000. That's just what interval I've always maintained. I don't drive much it's taken me 3 months to put 2500mi on her. Lucky I have a state vehicle I drive home.

Thank you for the kind words. Glad we were able to help! You are running the good stuff now!

Anyone interested here is the 7 quart package we offer
https://gotexhaust.com/i-23696684-r...package-for-ram-150025003500-gas-engines.html

We just seen Corey's boroscope pics, it isn't pretty. Stay tuned to syn thread for updates, maybe a couple months, he will be running redline s1 to clean out those piston tops. So thanks to Nick for adding s1-1 so cheap when you get the already cheap package deal. I don't know anywhere else you can add an s1-1 to your order like this for 11 bucks. Great idea, highly recomend it. Especially towards the end of your oci, run some PEA cleaner like redline s1-1. Corey wasn't running it at the time, so we will see what long term use can do. As another option we seen the youtubes sea foam through the vac lines can get that carbon as well. Just don't let it harden over time, it is the death nail to rings.

I’d leave Lucas out of it and use just a quality syn oil
