So this has been happening off and on for about a year and Im finally done with it. I have the AMP steps installed and they come down when any of the doors open.

For some reason the driver door works intermittently. Sometimes it works fine and immediately drops the steps when the door opens. Other times I have to wait around 5-10 seconds for the truck to realize the door is open and then it drops the steps.

All the other doors work fine. I understand that the door sensor is located within the door latch mechanism.

Is there any way to test the door latch before purchase/install of a new one? It appears the door latch install is a bit of a hassle. It doesnt make sense to me that sometimes it works and sometimes its delayed. It never not works, its just delayed.

It has not once had an issue sensing that the door is closed. Only when the door opens.

Any help to be pointed in the right direction would be appreciated!

Does the door open dash indicator light show immediately that the door is open or does it too take a while to acknowledge the door open signal?

It takes a while.

I see what you're getting at. I shouldn't have mentioned the steps at all. The wiring of the steps doesn't seem to be an issue.

The truck itself doesn't recognize the door is opened intermittently. The lights don't come on for a couple seconds. When inside the truck and exciting. The rest of the doors won't unlock immediately.

So this, to me at least, is either a door sensor issue or an electrical issue with the truck itself and nothing to do with the steps. I only mentioned the steps because it's the most noticable result of the issue itself.

Does anyone know how to test the sensor to see if it is bad?

I am working on a 2021 TRX and I'm installing a powered side steps kit from Rough County and I was wondering if you can tell me which plug you used for thr door open/close signal on the white plug panel in the driver left side kick panel? I believe it's the 5th one from the front bottom row but if you can verify with your AMP wiring would really help me out today. Thanks in Advance

Sorry, I do not have AMP steps myself.

This site may help you get the wiring descriptions you need though...

Sounds to me like the sensor is a little sticky and doesn't pop fully out for a few seconds some times. Happens first with the driver door because it gets used most. Same as if a seat belt winder craps out, almost always the drivers one. Take and clean the sensor off real good and lube it with Silicone, not WD40. That will likely solve your problem. If the sensor itself was bad it would either work on not, same with electrical.
