Some include all the rebates that most dont qualify for so they jack up the price and then you have to haggle from there

Would it be possible to get the upgraded cluster on a new one as a purchase agreement?

Everything I've read about the 4.5 Gen points to the 6.4 getting a new 8 speed. We'll see in a week.

I bought a 2017 2500 tradesman for $32000 with 28000 Miles on it a month ago. Only other two in my price range was a new one for $39000 and a 2016 Power Wagon for $38000. the 2017 had what I wanted so we went with it. It has the gooseneck prep package, back up camera full chrome and sensors on back bumper. 5" screen and cloth seats came with remaining factory warranty.

Get the cost for replacing the injectors on a diesel engine and you will find it is as much as the cost to buy a rebuilt gas engine. Diesel is important when towing more than 10,000 lbs on the highway for the power to merge quickly with traffic or pass a semi quickly or to gain 25-30 percent more range with a tankful of fuel.

Also a big difference between a truck that has mostly highway mileage and never tuned or used for towing and one that has been used in construction or off-road. Generally the standard cab two-door trucks get the hardest use.

I got mine for 34k out the door, I have the cc big horn with the 6.4 Hemi 4wd. She had only 32k on the odometer when she came home. She got traded in for a 1500 ram by someone

I wouldn't hold your breath. We are still building the old one at the same rate. There will be an update for the 68rfe but it's a small one. 66rfe is gone. It's only 65 and 68 now. We are rumored to build a new HD trans but there has been no announcement, no machines and no empty space for it at the moment.

Respectfully that makes no sense. The 65RFE isn't an HD trans and the 66RFE won't bolt behind a Hemi. So even if you're correct and the 8 speed isn't coming in 2019 there has to be more to this story.

The rumored 8 speed was an updated ZF unit so is it possible the manufacturing was all handled outside of FCA facilities?

The 65 goes in a HD truck with the 5.7l and now, I'm told, the 6.4l. The 66 was the sole trans for the powerwagon and 2500 6.4l truck. It was done being produced before Christmas. At the moment the only ones we do not build are the aisin and the 8speed trans in a 1500 with a 5.7 and the small diesel engine. It's a contract year for the uaw so that trans will most likely be negotiated this year. Who knows though, they could just buy them from ZF but if they decide to do that it could be a long strike. Still possible, I'm not saying it's not but from the engineers I've talked to in out test garage it's unlikely.

You could always look at Certified Pre-owned. Better warranty than new and all of the maintenance is up to date. Could save a few thousand...

Well I guess we'll know for sure in about a week. This moparinsiders article mentions the 8 speed for 2019 so I was getting optimistic that it might actually happen.

https://moparinsiders.com/2019-ram-2500-limited-vs-2020-chevrolet-silverado-2500hd-high-country/

We do know that the Ram will have at least two engines available for the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty. The 6.4-liter HEMI V8 or BGE (Big Gas Engine) will return. We aren’t sure as of it yet, if the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 will make the lineup this time. An all-new 6.7-liter CUMMINS inline-6 turbo diesel with a Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) engine block is rumored to be coming. Our sources say that the Cummins will put out somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 horsepower and 930 lb-ft. of torque for the 2500 models and 430 horsepower and 980 lb-ft. of torque for the 3500 models. A new line of 8-speed Heavy Duty TorqueFlite automatic transmissions are also said to debut in the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty.

I was hoping for a 8 speed as well but the more info I see I am guessing no. HP and torque numbers I am seeing say they are going to be the same as current so that tells me no new transmission.

That’s normally how it happens. New body/interior, and recycled power train make the rollout safer.

I enjoyed the trans discussion in my thread. At least we are talking truck trans, right?

So, I went an built a 2500 tradesman with all the options I would want on the truck and the msrp came out to just over 45K on the truck. At 15% off msrp still looking at $38,500 and 20% off is $36K then with all the fees and taxes, etc, I'm looking at well over $40-$41K range and then the cost to travel to DD and drive back. For this particular truck and its intended purpose that is just too much to spend.

Going to have to look at a 2500 with a bit more miles or even a nicely equipped Big Horn or even Laramie in the 1500 Flavor that is closer to home. Hate to admit that the 1500 in a nicer trim may be a better choice. Damn, that pains me to say that! :banghead:

Gotta buy what works best for you and what you want. That is the most important thing.

Sorry to steer your thread off topic. Just trying to give what little info I have. It's to the best of my knowledge but I could be completely wrong on it. As for your situation the truck I bought came out of Canada. Not sure if they bring them in in your area but they sell at a pretty good discount. Only catch is, no warranty. Because they can get them cheaper FCA felt as it was hurting their bottom line so to discourage people from buying they won't honor any existing warranty.

I found a very nice 15 powerwagon with 40k on it a year ago loaded for $36k. Probably could have been cheaper but I wanted them to throw in new tires.

Well what the heck... if you can get away with a half ton, why would you be considering the 3/4 ton? But honestly, you are not gonna save all that much money going 1/2 ton vs 3/4 ton.

I have a '16 2500 (6.4 Hemi) as my own personal DD vehicle, and a '17 1500 (5.7 Hemi) for work. I have to admit, the half ton is so much more enjoyable to drive. And I am not talking about the ride quality, as the firmer 3/4 ton ride is just fine in my book (I do have a power wagon, which rides much better than a normal 3/4 ton). The half ton is night and day quicker and easier to drive, to the point that it is almost a joke. I have never lined them up, but the difference in the seat of the pants feel between the two is insane. And the 8 speed trans vs the 6 speed in my 3/4 ton is leaps and bounds better. But when I hook up the travel trailer or hit the trails, I would much rather be driving the power wagon. Its all in what you are gonna use the truck for.

If you worry about 50k then you will worry about something else. Why worry at all, just enjoy the ride. 6.4 Hemi is wonderful. I love mine.
