Hello Guys,

I followed what the Mopar.ca site suggested as an upgrade for speakers for my truck and ordered the 77kick42 which will go in to the front doors and dash...

However reading a few threads here I noticed that the 77kick28ab is for the non-alpine system? Is this because the tweeters are 8 ohm and comes with built in capacitors acting as bass blockers? I actually couldn't find any info that states that these tweeters are 8 ohm...

Is there any way to install the 77kick42 in a non-alpine 8.4 uconnect with 6 speaker setup? Is there any way to convert the dash speakers to 8 ohm and bass block, etc? I don't want to return these and wait for the exchange to be shipped again. It's taking forever already as it is to get here.

I have a 2015 ram 1500 sport with crew cab. it has the 8.4 screen non-alpine system.

As I was reading other posts, I noticed people usually talking about what they would prefer installing or suggesting other brands and type of setups, creating side topics, etc... and usually the main question and the topic gets lost. Please only reply with this specific topic regarding using mopar branded kicker 3.5' dash speakersfound in 77kick42 and their ohm rating and crossover/bassblock features.

Thanks,

The 77KICK42 is marked for;
77KICK42 Dodge Ram Quad/Crew - front 6x9 woofer (2) + 3.5" 2-way (3) - (2009 - 2014) 12 CHANNEL PREMIUM AUDIO ONLY

For base audio, Id use 77KICK28AB Dodge Ram 6x9 midbass (2) + tweeter (2) - (2009 - 2014) - 6-SPEAKER BASE AUDIO ONLY
or a
77KICK41

Being you ordered 77KICK42, those impedances may not work with a base audio.

Thank You for your reply,

There seems to be a confusion with the classification/marketing of the audio in these trucks. Maybe it is like this in Canada only? When I was buying my truck, back in 2015... they had base audio which had no 8.4 screen, they had 8.4 screen premium (which I have) and then there was the top of the line alpine audio package. So I think the name premium is misleading.

However when I went to my Mopar.ca, and to my dashboard, I entered my VIN and went to audio section in the accessories and upgrades and it was showing me 77Kick42, also when I visited other sites I select the "non-alpine" option never seen an option that said "premium" and usually they show 77kick42 or some sites show 77kick41 which i thought was a mistake as well because I think its pretty clear that those are for the rear. No one ever suggested or listed 77kick28ab as a replacement part for this truck until I read threads in this forum. This is very odd isn't it?

I understand the 4 ohm speakers are not going to work because of the front speakers being connected in parallel. But are we 100% sure that the small tweeters in 77kick28ab are 8 ohm? i cant find a picture that shows the ohm rating in the back of them. I see some capacitors behind them for the crossover, but I cant see the rating in google pictures. If my only option is to re order the 77kick28ab's I might have to do that, but I want to be sure that they are 8 ohms. would you have a picture of this ?

Thank you for quick replies,

You mean the tweeters in the 77kick28ab are 4 ohm right? if that's the case then, I should be able to install the 77kick42 3.5" dash spekers with a bass blocking capacitor or something.

I wanted to follow the 8 ohm in dash and 4 ohm at door setup that is in there originally, but i think that goes out the window once we upgrade.

If the 6x9 is also 4 Ohm, which our OE 6x9’s are, the amp will still see a 4 Ohm load with the tweeter in parallel. Normally, a parallel wiring between two 4 Ohm speakers would create a 2 Ohm load, but because the tweeter has a built-in high pass crossover it limits the frequency range, which essentially leaves the impedance the same as far as the amplifier is concerned.
