I just ordered the single sub stealthbox for my 2012 ram quad cab with the Alpine. What amp should I get? I looked in the manual for the stealthbox and they recommended the JL Audio 250/1 amp. That seems on the low end on power.
Should I go bigger and get the JL XD 6001v2? I like how the XD does not require a LOC.
This is my first time buying a amp and sub. It's all very confusing to me.

I see that JL is more expensive than other brands for their amps. Are they worth it?

Yes, JL has been around for a long time and have been consistent providing quality products. A lot of good brands were bought out and turned cheap. Sound Stream being one of them. Sound Stream in the mid 90’s was one of the best amps on the market. Now they are just another generic brand

I dont have the stealth box but i do have a jl10w3 sub and i run an alpine amp that puts out 500 watts rms at 2 ohms. They work great together. I would suggest getting an amp that has the same or more rms watts as the sub. Its always better getting an amp that puts out more than needed and turning it down than getting a weaker amp and running it hard.

I'm happy with my xd6001 running my 2 10 jl sub box, but i only have tw1 subs. The single has a w3 which is rated to 500 rms so I'd probably go with a xd6001 and turn it down a bit.

I’d go with what JL Audio recommends. I have the dual-sub Stealthbox with the recommended amp which is the XD600 and for powering two subs, it does just fine so I would think the 250 that JL Audio says to use would be all that you should need.

You’re only powering a 10, and it’s really not even a competition 10 so that should be plenty.

I'm wondering why they went so low on the recomendation. Your box as well as mine have 10TW1 Subs at 300W max a piece 600w for the pair. They recommend a 6001, which is 600 rms. Why would a box with a subwoofer rated at 500rms (assumimg its the jl 10w3, which is what the single 10 box comes with to my knowledge) have a recomended amp 1/2 the max power vs ours at 100% of the max. Seems odd.

The 250/1 doesn't appear to be a current model replaced by 300/1 and the old 10w3 had a lower power rating (300rms for v2 vs 500rms for v3) Being sold old stock?

I dunno, that is a good point but maybe there’s something about that 250 amp that they recommend for that single Stealthbox that makes it why they recommend it.

I got that info from the online manual for the stealth box. I have yet to receive it.
So yes, I could be an older manual., that would make sense.

Best thing to do would be to get with JL Audio’s tech support and ask what they suggest. Not only was the XD 600 recommended in the manual of my dual ten inch Stealthbox, but even Mike at JL Audio said the same thing. He even gave me instructions on how to set mine up, and even told me how to test for if I’d need one of them LOC’s or not- which,
I didn’t. [emoji41]

Just looked a lil deeper into things. On the Crutchfield site it has a link to the owners manual to a older model subwoofer that in the stealthbox. The old ones had a 10w3v2, newer models being sold have a 10w3v3.

With that sorted out the amp @2010 Infantry Vet noted would be a perfect match, but you'd have to go used or new old stock because it's been replaced by the xd6001. Other members have been happy with other brands as have I in the past. Zapco comes to mind. I Would stick in the 500rms range. Most good amplifiers are under rated as is. Rockford and alpine also make decent amps in that size for smaller money. I Have an xd6001 and its solid, small enough to mount behind the seat and runs cool even after hours of full volume like I do around the fire pit so It's not a bad choice in my opinion.

Just got a great deal on the JL XD600/1v2 $325 shipped.
Cannot wait to get this in my truck!!

That’s a good amp. I paid 450 for mine brand new. It runs the two JL 10’s in my Stealthbox pretty good.

So this being my first sub/amp install, what do I do about the wiring? I know what JL says I need, 50amp fuse, 4 for the wire. Can anyone recommend a brand? There is also a big difference in price here. Anywhere from $25- $99 for the amp install wiring.
Thoughts? There is not a big selection on amazon. The JL Fosgate, kicker are all the more expensive ones and are all pushing close to $100 or more. I know what the wiring SHOULD cost; and it’s more so in the less than $30 range.

Since you’re in SoCal there are tons of shops you could buy from locally. Another good option would be to look on Crutchfield.
