Hi new to the forum, but not Ram trucks. I am going to be hauling a 24,000 pound fifth wheel and I am having the truck special ordered. I want to here from the all knowing if I am setting it up correctly. I am looking at a 2017 3500 dually 2wd, 6.7 CTD, 4-11 gears rear air suspension and 8' bed, factory set up for the pin box. What else? And thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum.... nice truck :) That's a beast!

I couldn't find the 2017 chart but according to the 2016 you're okay as long as you get the Aisin transmission. I was surprised to see the truck you mention could be had with the 68RFE tranny but you would have about 8K less max trailer weight (22K instead of 30K). So, for the 5th wheel you're talking about you'll need the Aisin.

Just curious - I'm thinking that weight has to be some type of vehicle or equipment carrier? Or, is there a 24K residential 5th wheel? I've never seen one that big but haven't really been looking since I'd need at least 2 of my trucks to pull it.

A 12 ton fiver, what brand/model. I don't think I've ever seen one that heavy.

You didn't say how much pulling you are going to do but if any substantial pulling is planed, I personally would be looking at the smaller cab tractors (Kenworth/Volvo).

Thanks for the response. Yes Aisin transmission is part of the solution too. As far as the fiver, it is a DRV 44 Houston and yes it's a monster

Thanks for the response. I have two big dogs a Great Dane and German Shepard so I need the four door.

Damn, you have to get us pictures of that combo once you get the truck. Definitely sounds like a monster. :)

Is there a post minimum before I can post pictures?

Yeah, I can't remember but it's not too many.... maybe 10.

There's a guy over on RV.net that hauls a similar sized 5th wheel all over the place with that exact truck and loves it.

Awesome do you remember his name on rv. Net?

https://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/memberprofile/mid/4587

Here's his profile on RV.net - now that I look at his signature the numbers are what his truck is rated at. I'm not sure if I was remembering those numbers or if I've read his posts talking about a 20K+ 5th wheel. In any case, his truck is virtually identical to what you are looking at and he's pulling a big 5th wheel with it. He seems to be a really good guy and I'm sure he'd be more than happy to share his thoughts if you throw up a post or send him a PM.

Several of the members here steered me to IRV2.com for all info RV related. LOts of great people and info. There is a guy on there who goes by Cummins12V98 and has a 3500 DRW with 4.10 Aisin and tows a Huge Mobile Suites with a combined 32,500#s. Says his truck does it effortlessly.
