I replaced the output shaft seal and it continues to have a slow leak. I did not replace the bushing so I’m wondering if that could be the cause. Any thoughts?

Definitely replace the bushing. Usually the bushing gets worn allowing the yoke / output shaft to move around too much ruining the seal. Just replacing the seal does not solve the root cause. Also, might want to polish the area of the yoke that contacts the seal. Use very very fine emory cloth like 1000+ grit.

I thought that may be it but want to be sure before I take the case off. Thank you for the info.

Does it always stick out so far?
One piece driveshaft with no splines on it?

To tell you the truth I can’t remember if it was always like that. I have a 7in lift from maxtrac and they said I don’t need any modification to it so I left it as such.

Measure the outer diameter of the yoke that goes into the bushing. Kent-Moore makes a tool to remove and install the bushing without taking the output shaft cover off. The tool part number needed is based on the ID size of the bushing which will be a few thousandths larger than to OD of the yoke. Your local auto parts store may have the one you need as a loner.

Check into a speedy sleeve for the shaft of the yoke.Easier then replacing the bushing and usually works just as good.Get the outside dimenisions of the yoke and go looking for a sleeve that size.Napa might even have them in stock

Did it not leak when you first put the lift on?
Pulled out that much puts a much greater load on that bushing so it might be wiped.

it was leaking before the lift.

I was looking at my seal this weekend.

It does not appear to be wet on the inside. Should it? Maybe thats the problem, theres an inner seal that is leaking.

Thay yoke is sticking pretty far out. Based on the picture the somewhat clean part of it where the seal originally seated is about 2" back. How much of that is now inside the tail shaft housing past the seal?

So I pulled the drive shaft and removed the seal. Can anyone tell me if I unbolt the rear case if fluid will pour out? It has an rtv sealant but I don’t know if I will drain the trans by removing it. I have to remove it because I’m order to get the shaft bushing replaced, I have to take the case off. See pics below.

Decided to pull the extension housing and sure enough, trans fluid dumped out. Debating if I should replace the shaft bearings while I’m in there. They feel fine and roll with no resistance.
