I almost hate to open this can of worms, but I am at least somewhat miffed. We took delivery of a new Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab the end of July and so far love it! With that said, I did download the owner's manual to my computer and have used it quite a bit. However, there comes those times when I want or need to look up something in the owner's manual when I don't have access my computer - like when I'm not home!!!!!!!
So I call what I think is the correct # to get a paper copy of the owner's manual. The number I reached told me that I could order one but the cost was $37 plus shipping. I said that after spending over $50,000.00 for a truck, I shouldn't have to pay extra for an owner's manual. The gentleman then transferred me to another FCA # where they could help me get a complimentary owner's manual. After being on hold for almost 30 minutes, a very nice young lady said she could help. However, when she looked up my VIN she said they didn't have any. She thought that strange, so she said she'd check with a supervisor. After being on hold again for almost 10 minutes, she came back on and said that because it was a new vehicle, FCA didn't have any. She said the supervisor said that I could get a complimentary manual from my selling dealership. When I called the dealership's parts department, I was told that they we readily available from FCA but it would cost me $27 plus $14 shipping! This seems totally unreasonable to charge for the owner's manual. Again, we spent over $50,000.00 for a highly technical motor vehicle and now I'm being told that we have to spend more money for a "hard" copy of the owner's manual.
I did send a followup email to Mopar.com and am still waiting to get a response. I'm wondering if anyone else out there has encounter a similar situation? Just seems strange that at the end of the model year they are telling me that they don't have any owner's manuals because the vehicle is "too new!" This is driving me...
