Howdy all. Newbie here. Not a mechanic or anywhere close :)

I've got a 2004 Ram Quad 5.7 Hemi. Recently I heard some hissing in the engine compartment from my cab (close to dash, right side if I'm sitting in drivers seat). Shortly thereafter my heater takes forever to heat up (perhaps leak), if at all and now I'm getting an intermittent P2181 and red lightning bolt on my dash.

Are the two completely separate and/or related?

Thanks!

The two should be separate issues unless you are losing coolant and it's leaking into your throttle body.

When you get the red lightening bolt, does the truck run normally or not? Do you have any codes besides the P2181? Are you losing coolant? When the engine is cool, carefully open the radiator cap and check your fluid level.

I will check it out. I can smell coolant outside the truck. Maybe that was/is the leak? Also, the lightning bolt only shows up when the check engine light is on and the only code I've gotten so far is P2181...I'll check fluid levels later.

What are your engine temps? Or in this case, is it significantly above or below the midpoint?
