Hey guys, thank you in advance for your input and experience. I'm not big on fixing my own vehicles (I prefer building new things out of wood over maintaining things made of metal!). I know that's not cool around here, but my various mechanics are at a loss on this vehicle.
I've got a 2004 RAM 2500 LT HEMI MAGNUM 5.7l. I bought it used a few years ago. The body is a little banged up, probably from plowing.
It's always had some weird issues.
Months ago it began to exhibit an intermittent starting issue. Sometimes it starts fine. Other times it just clicks once when you turn the key. Another try or a few more tries of the same and then it starts normally.
Two different mechanics have replaced the starter at least once each and the ignition switch has also been replaced. It has some security and remote starting stuff under the dash, which seems to have been an issue for other people, but I haven't been able to replicate their exact issues and equipment.
There's also been an intermittent "lamp out" ding and light, mostly cutting in and out on bumpy dirt roads. I haven't been able to identify what lamp if any is having an issue. This was happening before the starting issue.
Now there are other things going wrong. Sometimes the stock cruise control doesn't turn on at all. Other times it's fine.
-- I suspect what's above and what's below could be totally unrelated --
More recently it's been stalling and having major performance issues. It doesn't seem to like a near-idle low throttle situation. It was kind of all-or-nothing on the gas the last time I drove it. If I tried to maintain speed it would stall or nearly stall and not kick back in until I was fairly strong on the gas again. Not sure if this is related, but the gas pedal has always felt kind of sticky since I've owned it. It's been very tough to finesse into accelerating - more of the all-or-nothing feel, but on a much smaller scale, and not seeming to affect actual performance. Mechanics shrugged it off. Now it's a major issue but I'm not sure if it's related.
It was inspected and passed a few months ago, but I've got lots of codes since then.
Here's the list, in case it helps, from my bluetooth tool and mobile app:
(OBD-II)
P0315 confirmed crankshaft position system - variation not learned
P0300 confirmed random/multiple cylinder(s) misfire detected
P0137 confirmed heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) 2, bank 1 - low voltage
B2403 confirmed
P3500 confirmed
P008A confirmed low pressure fuel system - pressure too low
U0D03 Pending
P00E3 Pending
My inclination is to trim and reconnect the battery cables. If that doesn't help with the starting issue I was thinking maybe the PCM? Maybe fixing whatever is causing the starter issue fixes other things. Hopefully it's not a whole list of different issues all exhibiting at once. . .
