After 93k miles I finally needed to replace the brakes on my 15 ram 1500. I’m guessing that they were the original pads. I bought the truck from the dealer with 20k on the clock. It was the owners wife’s vehicle.

what we found when we removed the left rear brake rotor is the parking brake pads & hardware completely missing, the hardware & pads were installed on the right.

In order to replace the parking brake you have to take the axles out so plan on doing the rear differential fluid at the same time.

I tried not pulling them for a while and it just doesn’t work. Or at least it didn’t for me.

I did mine without pulling the axles. It is a test of patience, but with a good pair of small needle nose vice grips it is possible.

I have seen people mount them without the inside return spring with, apparently, no issues. It was tempting to leave it out but I did eventually get it.

I replaced both parking brake assemblies on mine without pulling the axles. In my driveway. On jack stands. You will need patience for sure, but it certainly can be done.

How tight did you make the parking brake after? I was able to replace everything and tightened the star nut some but I’m not sure how right to go. I don’t want to over tighten it and have excessive heat on the new rotors. I’ve seen some videos that say until there is a slight drag when spinning the wheel but that doesn’t seem to make the parking brake tight enough. Any tips would really be appreciated.
