I'm waiting my turn to get into what is IMHO one of the best install places in the country, Home
It's been a longtime goal to have Bing do an install for me and I'm getting scheduled in for next summer. It's a long wait but if you take a peek at his work you'll see it's worth it.
It's a simple install...but some not so normal gear.
I'm keeping the OEM head unit simply for it's integration into the truck. I don't wanna lose all the convenience features it offers.
Gonna need a processor for that....so I have a Rockford Fosgate 3Sixty.3.

The laptop tuning ability looks really fun.

Amps will be a pair of Mosconi AS 200.4's running the rest 4 way active.

Front stage will be my Focal 165 KRX3 set with the midranges and tweeters in the a-pillars and midbass in the doors.

Sub will be my JL Audio 12W6v2...possibly the W3v3

The cab will be fully deadened and dampened, Streetwires wiring and interconnects, XS Power batteries and a bigger alternator.
I have all this stuff sitting and waiting...it's gonna kill me to wait so long but it'll be worth it.

Wondering if you've had previous experience with any of the gear? Thats a lot of high-end brands, but takes a LOT of knowledge to make good on. Those Focal hard-domed tweets can be a b*tch.

Quite a few years of experience with high end gear. It's my 2nd install with the drivers chosen. My first go around with that processor though:..I used a Clarion DRZ9255 in my last truck.
The Focal Tweeters aren't a hard dome like a metal dome would be. The Kevlar is pretty easy to tame.

I am very interested in your build. I am looking at going with the 3-way set-up in front also. It would seem like it would raise the soundstage by mounting the mid drivers in the dash with the tweets in the pillars.

My original thoughts were componets in the door and the coaxial 3 1/2 in the dash, but having seperate tweets playing on different axis and distances might muddy things up a bit. I was thinking about just mounting the 6 inch driver in the door and then putting the tweets in the A pillar close to the 3 1/2" coaxial set. Thoughts? Of course all wouldbe driven by high end power.

I plan to do a straight a-pillar install like I did in my last truck.
They won't be completely on axis but they'll be better than using the stick location and firing off the glass. That's the reflection nightmare from hell.
This so called premium Alpine system is disgusting.

Here's the pillars in my last truck. I did these myself at home...don't feel like going through all that work again. lol

View from the back seat....1/2 the truck was still apart at this point.

A pillars look nice! They look like they are facing each other. I was always under the impression that you should have them faced towards the ears, but not completely on-axis. Just wondering how you aimed them and the reasoning behind it.

Focal builds their drivers to perform way above average off-axis. These things are quite expensive....and you get what you pay for in performance from them.
I worked with Duane at Orca designs on my pillar build, he provided aiming tips for the drivers I'm using. Orca is the American importer for Focal, Mosconi and some other high end brands.
Whether or not you use a drive on-axis or off is totally dependent on the driver itself..
