Performance shocks

Id like to get a debate going, or at least different options for some good performance shocks... Especially that would be compatible with 6" lift, and maintain the "levelish" stance.

Part #s would be great too.. I will update this post as the information comes in..

My initial searches bring me to Fox and Icon coilovers.. Both seem to be adjustable up front anywhere from 2-3" .. I would need over 2.5" up front to stay level.. But also, what about the rear?

In other words.. Direct replacement for bilstiens maxed out on a 6" lift.

Before I did my level I was looking into just doing straight coilovers and whatnot up front. If you look at downsouth motorsports they offer the king oem replacements (these go up to 2.5" in front) that can be used with a lift (edited)

Those kings are nice.. How would that completely do away with spacers though?

You are correct. Very pricey lol.

What would be the next step up from bilstiens?

Fox, Icon, or King would be my choice. Bilstein also has piggy back shocks but not sure if they have any for 1500's.

Ive been all through bilstiens site/product list. It's very difficult to find something other than a stock height or 1.5" lift replacement.

They do have them for up to 1.5" rear but nothing for the front.

Fox is only showing adjustable coilovers up to 2".. Id like 3" but 2.5" would be ok.

I'm going to just order the rear bilstiens that normally come with 6" lifts through superlift (be-5-6249-h5)...which is weird because when you look for that shock, it doesnt even include the ram trucks.

(Should hold me off until I figure this out)

I think this is what is making it so difficult to find another Bilstien option, there's probably ones that will fit...just not "fitted" to the Ram on their site.

Was talking to a guy yesterday that builds rock crawlers.. Just dumped 90k into his own last year. He advised me more than 10 times to stay away from fox, and said he'd rather have bilstiens instead.

He has kings on his rig though.

The issue I had was finding correct mounts for the custom length Coilovers. Before I went with the Pro Comp kit with their Coilovers I wanted to run 8" Travel Fox Coilovers with 16", 700lb Eibach Springs. This would give me 6-9" of lift adjustable of course when paired with a lift kit. I ran this setup on my 07' Silverado but went with 10" Travel to get 12".

Anyways, the main problem is no one makes a Clevis style lower mount that the Rama need. The guy who fabbed the mounts for my Silverado had no issues with the top since it's such a simple design. It's making the lower mount that was the concern.
I got the part numbers for the lower parts used on Fox Levleing Coilovers but all the pieces were very expensive lol, needless to say. Money will do it ofcourse. The Coilovers and Springs alone would run me about 650-750 which is a great price. Again, mounting was the issue I ran into. Good luck brother.

they both make rear shocks also. But king shocks are also another option. You can get them custom so that you don't even need the strut spacer any more also. Pretty penny but from what I've learned they are worth it.

someone on here recommended https://www.thurenfabrication.com/p...suspension-systems/thuren-ram-1500-kings.html
(sorry I forgot who it was)

DEFIANTLY on my list of upgrades

It was probably me! I have the Thuren Kings and they are amazing. If you are looking at mostly street usage with either low speed or limited offroad driving Thuren's Stage 2 valving will be perfect. He most commonly sells the Stage 3 (which is what I have) but I suspect that is because if you are looking at offroad racing shocks you intend to race them offroad! I can tell you on my 2015 CCSB EcoDiesel (so my sprung weight is a little heavier) the sweet spot on the Stage 3 shocks is right around 35-40 mph. The higher the stage level the more speed is necessary to push through the shock valving so a Stage 2 would have a sweet spot slightly slower than the Stage 3s (probably around 25 mph I'm guessing). I have a 2.5 mile dirt driveway that nobody seems to want to maintain anymore and right around 35 mph it starts to float through damn near everything and keeps the tires planted on the ground.
