My qsud 0w20 and 10oz of lubegard has not fixed it, but its so random and i can go weeks with out it happening. Not as loud as some of the others i hear also.
Someone said the srt filter fixed theirs. May try that next but stay with 0w20 qsud.

So you were on 5w30 before this? And it sounds better now? only on cold start ups with cold engine?
You are so right burla i would hate for the tick to come back maybe I'll try taking out 3 qts and putting 3 qts of redline 5w20 in whats your thought on that is all this even worth itThe only oil strategy you can do it go thinner, mind you 0w20 or 5w20 is very very thick at 0f or close, maybe even as high as 20f. Yes I would try 5w20 and a new filter, I think it has a legit chance at bettering piston slap. The real question is will an oil strategy fix this, it may not. When metal is cold it shrinks, when it is warm it expands. So it could be that fact is what is causing the slap. I would say if this is the case piston slap is generally a safe thing, it isn't causing massive damage. As long as the piston rings have a good seal at combustion, this is just an annoyance as opposed something that you should battle even more then warm idle tick. If you fix piston slap by going thin but get hemi tick back, I think that is the worse outcome.
A side note there has been some success with mos2 and cold piston slap, now that is a solid moly so I would research before using it.
Not sure what to do at this point like burla said the tick might come back if i go redline 5w20. i was thinking of draining about 3qts and adding 3 qts of redline 5w20 and see if anything changes I love ram trucks but they sure are temperamentalDealer oil and filter did it a few times back when i picked it up in march and happened in warm weather also, only 1st cold start.
Swapped to redline 5w30 in November and it happened so i switched thinking it was too thick for the cold.
Swapped to the 0w20 qsud/10oz lubegard and it has happened 2 or 3 times after its sat for 24hrs or more.
Today i started it to move and it happened, but i had started it yesterday.
Idk! I dont have a warm idle tick just this every now and then cold start tick

I just changed it but this is my second time with redlineCold piston slap is not just a ram thing. How many miles do you have on 5w30 redline?
If you search the pics of piston slap online, you just see scuffs on the side of the cylinder, but because this happens at the bottom of the piston it is not hurting anything. The combustion chamber that supplies all of the power is not affected by this. And since this literally goes away as the metal warms, you guys see it is harmless. In the photo's I see online it is never more then a scuffing of the surface.

im gonna save it but is it worth trying ? Has anybody tried itI would put a clean dry gallon container underneath, i usually use old water bottles but dry, and capture that 5w30 and re-use it. If you have a big piece of cardboard underneath and follow the flow with the container in your hands, I bet you wont even loose 1/4 quart. The trick would be stopping it. But I'd reuse that in summer, no reason to waste that. Up to you.
your a good guy burla wish i could drink a couple beers with you. If i do try adding some redline 5w20 I'll let you know the resultsYes, totally harmless IF it is piston slap you are hearing. Guys with those ls engines have had zero issues other then noise. In fact those engines are about as popular if not more popular then old chevy 350's, I am pretty sure both of those two engines are the most engines people put in their restomods. I could be wrong, bet I bet I'm right on that one. Despite piston slap a very popular engine.
