The little clips that hold the tailgate trim on at the ends have broken. I guess it’s from me smacking the trim piece trying to get it to snap in. Has anybody had that problem and have come up with a fix short of replacing the trim.

Try glueing with automotive goop, its semi flexible and doesn't come off easy. Other than a new trim IDK.

I thought about a glop of something. Can’t hurt. Also the biggest fir tree type plastic fastener might work too. The factory hole in the tailgate for the clip is sort of large and rectangular for that and I don’t want to drill a new hole in the metal. A hole in the plastic wouldn’t hurt though.

There aren’t any external fasteners on the top of the tailgate for the trim piece. There are some on the inside panel that holds the trim on.
Across the top there are several clips molded into the trim that snap into the tailgate metal. The ends of my trim have curled up because the clips are broken. I was tooking for an option to fasten it back down.

Those are the ones on the inside. Maybe 6 of them. I was thinking of using something like those for the top. It would take big ones I’m thinking. The way the trim is molded there is a space between the trim and the tailgate. The holes in the tailgate are rectangular. For those plastic fasteners like that to work I will need to drill into the metal through the trim. I would rather not do that. If I could find some really big pins, it would be worth trying to use the original holes. I might just go price a new trim piece. It shouldn’t be more than $5,000.

I recieved and installed my new tailgate trim. It isn’t drilled for the push pins like the original. It has a strip of 3M like glue tape along the inside edge. If it doesn’t stay stuck down, I’ll use my old one for a template and drill it for the pins. So I’m happy. Now if I can only figure out What I need to upgrade the radio. I have the small screen 6 button one. One level up from base.

Mine has done the same thing. I think the pressure from my tonneau cover caused the problem.

If you remove the access panel and look at the clips that hold the trim down you might see that they aren’t fully engaged or broken. Mine broke. In fact, on the new one it is difficult to get them to snap in. It is like the square holes in the tailgate and the location of the clips don’t align properly.

A couple of years ago I has the plastic bed caps rails along the side of the box warp from the heat of the sun. I bought a new set, put automotive goop on the back of them, put them on and left weight on them overnight. Never had a problem since.

I hate the tailgate trim. Mine is destroyed. Not paying for another plastic piece. Need to find one made of metal.

Time to break out the ole google lol.

What did you end up going with? Mine has 1 side that is coming up, appears to be a broken clip. I've tried adhesives, but nothing works. I can't find any better aftermarket replacement options, but my google skills could be lacking. I'll likely just order OEM replacement, but wanted to double check if anyone found other options.
