Dealer just got back to me with a solid offer and now I don’t know what route to go.
I currently own a 2016 ram 1500 sport black out, 54,000km and owe $34,000

Looking at a 2019 ram 1500 Laramie fully loaded with the 12” screen, 19 speaker Harmon kardon, dual sunroof, etc. Roughly $85,000 after tax

Dealer offered me today $36,725 for my truck for trade in.

What to do.....

P.s I even have wife approval if numbers make sense

Are they offering anything off of sticker? They usually just move money around to a payoff amount to make the deal seem attractive to the buyer.

At the end of the day though, it’s your money, only you can decide.

Remind me to never move to Canada lol Jesus! Its really up to you.

Like another mention already make sure you aren’t paying msrp. They making it more appealing by offering slightly more then you owe on it so your not bringing in negative equity but they tend to offset it by not budging off the sticker price. Negotiate your ass off!

So with them paying off your current truck with a little bit thrown at the deal, and the price deduct, you are basically financing $80K. That's a hefty payment.

Honestly OP we can spend all day spending your money. At the end of everything, only you can decide if that’s worth doing.

All I know is ....I got $6K+ off the $65K MSRP/sticker without even asking. Then I got a couple more thousand with simple negotiations when I asked for the build sheet and told them to leave the Friends and Fam Pricing and Employee Pricing on it. I didn't expect EP, but I got reeeeeeal close. I got better than FFP. Then the usual FCA discount and other discounts I qualified for. There is no way I would pay more than invoice BEFORE any applicable discounts .......that's just me.

The dealer is ripping you off on the 2019 discount.

Here's a link to a dealer in the Greater Toronto area that is advertising way more than $3000 online, so you know that once you start negotiating you could do even better.

This dealer is offering $2500 manufacturers discount plus $4500 dealer discount.

If you can wait a few more months, I think FCA will be discounting the 19's similarly to the 4th Gens....they have to compete for their market share with Ford, GM, Toyota & the new design Nissan.

Yea after looking further south in the Toronto area I’m going to hold off. Wait for some better discounts and then look again.

And let Ram sort out the first year kinks & issues.

Well, what if you purchase a 2016 2500 with only 10,000 miles on it soon after to realize you didn't really need a truck that HUGE?

OK, I am old school and raised 4 kids, worked hard all my life and I want to say that I bought my first new pick up September of 2015, the Ram 3500 6.7L Tradesman for $42,000 in blueIMG_1389.jpg UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_4f67.jpg UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_55f1.jpg . I ran it 18000 miles by the end of 2016, added a Ranchhand front bumper with my 9000k Warn Winch inside, lined the bed with thin rubber liner and contact cement and step rails. The last day of 2016 I got an email from my dealer suggesting a trade in. I laughed but went in anyway and for $3000 plus my truck, I got a brand new 2016, identical except for it comes with a CD player. I took out my winch, rubber mats, step rails and had the dealer transfer the front bumper to the new truck. I have a back up Ramcam for trailer hook up that is magnetic and sticks on the tailgate when needed for trailer hook up, built bed rails in my shop with a rack that stores with the headache rack in front but moves to the back when I am hauling long stock wood or pipes. I ordered a thick rubber mat for the bed and tailgate and attached cut rubber tire flaps to fit the front of the bed with glue and screws. Added LED front sidelights and front light that really light up the world and are really helpful winching stuck rigs at night. So it is a pick up truck and I drive a dirt road, not a show truck but it does not care when I add a 20 foot trailer with a full 1600 gallon water tank and pull it up a steep hill or fill it with stuff from an estate sale. Before you create unbelievable stress to your life financing an 85 thousand dollar truck, ask yourself what my truck for half that won't do that your $85,000 will do.

Your truck is probably only worth 25k to them. They are eating the fiff on the payoff. But then getting it back on you payning full msrp.

I think you are too upside down to be in a good bargaining position unless you just like loosing money because you really want the truck.

Yea I decided to hold off. I know how dealers play around with the money. Will have my truck paid off relatively quickly with the way things are going with me and the wife. So I say in 2-3 years when all the 5th gen glitches are worked out and my trucks fully paid off I will be in a way better position
