Hello everyone,

As a bit of an informal introduction I am a recent college graduate with a EE degree. I recently moved to St. Louis more specifically the Chesterfield/Ballwin area. I currently own a '05 Ford F150 super cab with 70,000 miles and various mods. I am looking into possibly buying a new truck for various reasons that no one cares to hear about.

As I have been looking the new gen Rams have really caught my eye. From some of the reading and research I have done they seem to be a solid vehicle. With all of this I have generated a few unanswered questions through my searching that I hope you guys/girls can helo me out with.

• Is the leveling kit the only "suspension" type modification that be completed without voiding warranty? For example if I were to add a RCX 4" what consequences will I be facing on the warranty?
• From reading I have determined that many members have been able to remove the UC3 and replace with an after market HU. Can the same be said for the UC5?

I believe for now those are the two questions I have. Although, I am sure that I will generate more later. I love to personalize my vehicle, but from reading I have noticed that Ram has done a fairly good job in trying to limit the ability to swap parts and/or customize. I am used to my Ford that has the same wiring harness as the most loaded truck making part swaps and upgrades a little easier.

I have attached a picture of my current truck if anyone cares! Thanks for all the help in advanced. This forum seems to be full of great knowledgeable people. (Sorry for my long winded post.)

- Alex

Hi Alex,

When I had an 04 Jeep Rubicon I had it lifted as well as a few other mods, the dealer I went to didn't much care but then they did say (and I knew already), that I had voided the warranty on my suspension, it all depends on the dealer you go to as to if they are mod friendly or not.

Not sure what a UC3 is but will probably slap myself on the forehead once I see the explanation for that...

This is my third Ram, had an 05, 11 and now my 13, love/d all three of them!

As I figured with the suspension, thanks. I appologize I talk in abbreviations at work so I guess that carrys over a lot. The UConnect 3 vs UConnect 5, two of the optional head units for the 1500.

in order to deny you a warranty claim, they would have to prove your mod caused the premature failure. they cant just void your warranty. some dealers are more mod friendly then others, some tend to give you a hard time. if your worried about this, you could always go with the 4" mopar lift.

i cant comment on the u connect 5, i really have no idea. i do not recall anyone swapping it out.

Welcome to the forum. It took me years to move to a Dodge. Now we have a Jeep and my Ram. I had a 98 Dakota and that thing just ran and ran. I won't own anything other than a Dodge now.

Everything I read on these forums is as AirborneSilva said. Seems to depend on the dealership. Dodge states that a mod has to be responsible for an issue to void the warranty on it. Leaves a lot of wiggle room on the manufacturer's part IMO. I need to find a "mod friendly" dealership in western Ohio.

I say go for the Ram, you will love it. I love my Sport, lots of Hemi power and good gas mileage for a truck.

Ah, roger that! I have the 8.4AN so I can't answer that but would think that it certainly can be done.

I didn't personally swap a 5 but the harness i bought for swapping the UC3 out has outputs on it for steering wheel controls and RCA for backup camera (the only extra cables left over that i could identify) so i "assume" you could swap it out. If i had a 5 or 8 i would have kept it though

I'm on my 2nd ram of the new generation and absolutely loved both of them. I like to mod also and have lifted both of them without any issues from my dealer and they are good to work with. As mentioned above, you could have them install a mopar lift that would be covered by the warranty but it is quite expensive. Good luck and we hope to see you in a ram soon!

Thanks for all the comment and help everyone. If I was to lift I would most likely buy and install the lift myself. I have owned my ford since it was almost new and it has only been to the shop for a problem once, everything else has been done by myself. I'm not a fan of others working on my truck if they don't have to.

I look forward to owning a new truck, but I still have been going back and forth with the thought of it. I have been looking pretty hard at the Black Express Edition Crew Cab 4x4. I would love a white sport but my pocket says no.
