I have a 99 dodge ram 1500 4x4 46re I h.e rebuilt the transmission and was having issues with over drive I have gotten that fixed now my issues is no matter if the truck is hot or cold when i put the vehicle in reverse it takes well over 30 seconds before it finally tries to shift into reverse then it shutters and slips for a second while I slightly press the gas then it will smooth out and back up just fine when I put it into drive it goes straight into first and I can drive it all day no problems it shifts fine with a little delay from 3rd to 4th but not near as much as going from park or neutral to reverse

It might be the check valve leaking by on the coolant line near the radiator. If it leaks, the trans fluid can drain back and this will occur.

Quick check to tell if it is this.
Start the truck, put it in neutral for 1 minute, put it into reverse - if it goes right into reverse and works fine, then the fluid is draining back ( usually from a leak or bad check valve, but you were in the trans so might be other possibilities).
IF it still acts up then it most likely is not that.

Sitting in Park won't do anything as fluid isn't pumped in park, but is in every other gear including neutral.

I removed the check valve as well and when I start it in neutral it still takes about 30 seconds the only other thing I can tell for sure is that it don't feel like it is engine braking in manual 1 I believe I read on here that could mean band adjustment

It will take up to a minute or more to purge the air, this can be worse if you park on any incline - and some inclines are worse than others.

If you idle in neutral for a minute or more, does reverse still mess up or does it go right into gear?
