Some of you may recall I did a top-end job on my 5.7 a couple years ago. After buttoning everything up, about 8 months ago I started getting the notorious "HEMI Tick". My first concern was the exhaust bolts snapped on these fresh heads. Naturally I procrastinated on checking it out. So the last 2 weekends I decided to get it knocked out. When I had purchased all the parts to do the head swap on my truck, I had also bought a set of MAHLE exhaust gaskets, but did not install them because the (re)manufacturer recommended using their complete parts kit, including gaskets.

I get under the truck and take the first side off and the gasket literally had fallen apart. Both sides were like this. I'm pretty sure the material is chromed/aluminized steel with a phenolic material "sandwiched" in-between. Problem is, since they're normal steel they still rust out, which is what happened in my case. This was after following the torque procedure and all. Thankfully, no exhaust bolts were broken. Now everything is buttoned up and my truck no longer sounds like a freight train. Down-side, my daughter doesn't call my truck a "choo-choo" anymore

TLDR; Buy gaskets from a reputable brand: MAHLE, Victor Reinz, etc.

Obligatory pic of the failure:

I have been living with an exhaust leak for a while now. Ended up ordering some ARH long tubes, getting them ceramic coated and ordered some remflex gaskets and ARP hardware. Have been waiting until this Thanksgiving week to install it all. So will have to report back after it's all done.

It is embarrassing cold starting my truck and hearing that damn exhaust leak I tell ya.

Mine finally started doing this. Its only for a few seconds less then a minute and its gone. I will also be tackling this soon. Thanks for the PSA. I felpro or a better gasket as well. I found years ago that mr gasket was the only gasket that would leak with my old fox bodies and headers. The LT's were the worst.

You should check with [email protected] I might have caught it at just the right time with the covid stuff, but you would be shocked how cheap he was able to get me a set of catted long tube ARHs for. I know I was. Much less than the listed price but I don't want to get anyone in trouble and post the price I paid. I would bet it was cheaper than stock stuff though.

Mine is the same way, about a minute of ticking then it is back to normal. I am fairly confident I have a couple broken bolts on the manifolds. Still under 50k miles FYI. Crazy.

I got lucky with mine. Mines up over 100k. I will check with him after we get through Christmas. Right now all our money is going towards that lol. I heard they were cheap. Even Allmoparparts.com was about 70 dollars cheaper on all weather floor mats for the Jeep. Once they come back in stock Ill be getting a set of those from them. Let me know when you get them on! I want to hear it!

Yes I did should be here next week. I needed to do something for now. I am also going to use CG hydro thread on the carpets to help with stains and spills.
