16 2500 125000 lots of towing. Had broken header bolts at 90k. fixed that. No other ticks. I use 10w 30 synthetic. No difference in mileage or performance. Idle oil pressure 40 psi. I do not recommend thin oil. 0 or 5wt. If your in Alaska at 60 below then use it. Of course if you live in extreme cold areas then install a block heater or quick drain and bring your oil inside overnight. The cam in the 5.7 is high in the block and you need thicker oil to cling when it is off. Traditional Aircraft piston motors have cams at the very top of the case, (block) only get splash oil for lubrication. Part of the reason they use 50wt oil.
Did you say to bring your oil inside overnight? That is true love. Lol

160,000 miles on my 2014 5.7. Cam and lifter failure. Original owner, Mobil1 synthetic every 5K. Work truck.
Cam swap is a job. MDS delete.

You have been doing the right maintenance, as stated not all have the cam/lifter problem, exhaust manifold different story, they are cast iron on a aluminum head, allot of heat cycles the manifolds warp affects the outer part of the manifold, that explains the outer snapped bolts, BD Diesel makes a great replacement, all I can say is lubrication is key, full synthetic oil redline 5w30w W/ royal purple filter 20-820 and Lube Gard bio tech 15oz every other oil change, keep idle hours down to a minimum I would keep what I got right now.

My 2015 SLT QC 2WD 3.21 has 199,400 miles.

Had her since 28,684 miles. Oil changes according to OCI. 5w-30 PP with Fram FE2 filter.

Bone stock, I've had to replace exhaust manifold bolts, gaskets, and sand my manifolds, replaced the front hubs, front rotors, rear wheel bearings and seals, headlight switch, ESIM, radiator. Other than that, normal maintenance brakes, tires, belt, coolant changes, brake fluid changes, 8 speed trans drain and fill, etc.

Got a trans service and brake fluid change due soon.

She has been an awesome truck. I've never even had her aligned. Probably the best vehicle I've ever owned.

Even though she is a stock 5.7 single exhaust, she still makes me smile when I exercise the skinny pedal.

My wifes 2019 Rebel 5.7 with 66K miles has the tick sound.
Bought it used with 51k miles and it had the tick.
Starting it cold there is no tick but noticeable when put in gear and when idling warmed up.
No noise on acceleration and engine runs great.
Bought with a warranty so will see what happens in the future!

My 2014 had lifter failure BUT it was originally a fleet truck that had idle hours in the thousands.
Had it rebuilt with no regrets, still my favorite vehicle of all time.

Remember there are millions of these trucks on the road and the vast majority have no issues at all.

Read the synthetic oil thread. There are ways to deal with the tick .

Draining the oil during extremely cold weather was fairly commonplace in days gone by. So was heating the engine with a small pan with some burning fuel oil in it directly under the pan. That worked too.
Although, the very best thing that I EVER saw in the "heat the cold engine" department was 2 guys in north Winnipeg years ago heating a Cummins Diesel in a highway rig. They had the hood tipped forward and were putting the heat to the pan with a Tiger Torch. I came by again about an hour or so later (it could have been 2 hours) and there was the truck, the propane tank and the Tiger torch but no people. The oil pan was touching the ground. Someone didn't know that those old beasts used an aluminum oil pan.

The trick to heating an oilpan with a tiger torch is to use about 6 feet of 6" or 8" stove pipe/heat duct with an elbow, that way the torches flame isn't touching the vehicle, just the heat from it was.It was a pretty common way to start things that weren't plugged in out in the bush. A 1/2 hour heated that way was usually more then enough time to have even a big ole cast iron diesal block warmed up enough it'd start.

Yup! Perfectly safe if they would have known what they were doing. Direct heat, was not the thing to do. A similar idea for preheating airplane engines was used by making a stove pipe set up with a hood over a Coleman stove. Usually an hour or so would be enough.
Then, in some airplanes, there was an "oil dilution" system, which involved adding gasoline to the hot engine until you saw a certain amount of pressure drop. Next morning it would turn over easy. SAE 30 oil doesn't flow well in 20 below.

So I dropped the truck of at the dealership we bought from yesterday so they can verify what the noise is.
Will find out next week.

They are also going to change the coolant and transmission oil and filter.
