Puck to SharkFin Antenna upgrade 2018!

Hey everyone

I was wondering if anyone has done the shark Fin antenna upgrade to their truck MY16-18 and have part numbers. I have seen a few OLD threads from 2013-2014 the part numbers have changed since those models. By chance(not luck cause I don’t have any lol) has anyone done this. Antenna is located on the back drivers side of the cab. I want the cell and SXM cables. Just to clarify

Shark Fin PN
Body Cable to run for quad cab PN
Jumper harness(runs under the dash to the radio) PN

Any help would be appreciated.

I know several folks have done this .
I actually have the OEM antenna install kit that I'd sell.
I've had it for probably 1.5 yrs . I'm working out of town right now , but I'll be home sometime Friday .
I'll get it and give you P/N s and pictures if your interested [emoji106]

The puck is for XM and GPS only, the shark fin style does those plus Cellular for the 911 Assist and Uconnect functions on the higher radios.

I live in Texas now but I’m from the suburbs of Detroit and one of my buddies I went to school with works for FCA. So once I get everything installed. He’s going to try and get me set up with U connect. Even tho it’s not a factory install

yep, I considered this as my RAM with puck seems to drop sat a bit more often than my previous vehicles - so considered upgrading to the fin... But there are couple issues.

One they are slightly different base diameters - so when you pull one off the remnants/outline of the previous part remain unless you do some serious detailing/clay bar or more. Of course, it's on top, so no one would ever really see it lol. I can't recall which is larger though.

The parts folks were rather dubious that I would see any gain in Sat strength/signal between the two types - as already mentioned the fin just adds the uconnect stuff, the sat/gps stays the same.

And, more importantly, if you are after the uConnect - as already mentioned it is damn near impossible to get uConnect activated on a vehicle that didn't have it originally. So if you are like me and upgraded from a RA1/2 to a RA3/4 it's very unlikely that you will ever be able to actually setup a uConnect subscription.

Best of luck if you decide to move forward with it, and please update us if you are able to make any headway. FCA and uConnect are separate compananies/identities, so while having an FCA contact may be helpful, I'm not sure they could do anything with uConnect side.

Interesting, that's the first time I've seen that mentioned. I had always assumed they were the same size base. Good info to have, thanks!

I'm deer hunting tomorrow , but I'll look again after I get home , hell maybe it's in the basement ?

For my 2017 Big Horn Quad Cab, with UConnect (but not the 2018 head unit...not sure if it makes a difference):

Rear mounted antenna is part # 68276409AA and comes with some cable attached already.

The parts list does NOT show different part numbers for the cables on different body codes (quad, crew)

WITH Uconnect:

Sat radio cable - 68148260AC
Jumper cable - 68148258AD

WITHOUT Uconnect:

Sat radio cable - 68170083AB
Jumper cable - 68148257AD
