This discussion started from another thread. Has anyone had both? I have read tech specs on the prospector xl but thinking about getting rid of my PW for the CD and making the switch.

Watching. I will be considering these types of vehicles soon (within next 2 years).

I owned a 2016 Prospector; the regular one, not the XL. I thought it was an awesome truck. It had the great torque of the Cummins engine, and would tow a house if you wanted to. It was fun to drive, and perhaps the best looking truck I've ever owned. The only minor complaint was that it had so much torque that in low range you couldn't get it to stop without either shifting into neutral, or absolutely standing on the brakes. The Mega Cab truck was too big for much offroad use as well.

Life changes though, and in 2017 I decided to buy a new house. My dream home, on my dream lot, came up for sale, and I needed to buy it before selling my old home, or the new home would be sold before I could buy it. I had to sell my Prospector to come up with the $100K down payment on the new home. It took a full year to sell my previous house, but when it sold I put the money mostly on my new house, and had enough left over for another truck. This time I chose a Power Wagon. The Power Wagon is better off road, no doubt about it. The Power Wagon suspension is much more compliant and smoother riding. And my Power Wagon has lockers, whereas my Prospector did not. The Prospector was better on road, and for towing, and a whole lot more bad ass looking. The Power Wagon cost 1/3 less as well.

The XL can come with lockers and 40 inch tires.

Good write up about the . Thanks for the feedback on the suspension

I'm sure a Prospector XL with 40's, and in a 2500 crew cab instead of a 3500 mega cab would be a lot better for off road use, especially with lockers. I was just comparing the Prospector I owned to the Power Wagon I own.

I really think the Power Wagon is a bargain considering what you get, for what it cost though.

who cares about the prospector.

yes, the flares are the best option to clear 40s.

buy a cummins and some thuren parts..now featuring front AND rear bumpers.
add in lockers and a winch.
would destroy a powerwagon in the flats of Florida, but not out west.

Obviously I care, and someone is following this thread.

With the torque of the diesel I'd almost say the opposite. It would crawl over things. The prospector comes with warranty and is factory. They dont make thuren stuff from the factory.

For the added cost of an AEV rig, you can build a better truck much cheaper and have oodles of money leftover to fix all sorts of broken ****.

Its all in what you want I guess.

I don't have many picture of my Prospector. Most of my pictures were on Photobucket, and then Photobucket stole everyone's pictures. I had a few pictures on Flickr, and now Flickr is doing the exact same thing. I'm done with photo-hosting sites. Here are a few directly from my computer.

The Prospector is not for someone who wants to build a truck, because I'm sure you could build a truck with the same functional parts for less money. But you wouldn't have a Prospector when you were done. It wouldn't have the same interior upgrades, it wouldn't have the upgraded badging, it wouldn't have the Prospector name, it wouldn't have a full factory warranty, and it wouldn't have the Prospector's resale value. An official AEV vehicle holds it's resale value remarkably well. This was my third one.
