Was wondering if any of the Gen 4 users that keep their trucks parked outside in the sun have suffered any clear coat failure?

Here in Florida I see lots of vehicles with clear coat failure. Was wondering how the Gen 4 paint holds up here in the sun.

Doesnt clear coat failure also have to do with how a vehicle is maintained? ie if its never washed the contaminants can essentially help to eat through it? I am not sure, have been in TX heat all my life and dont see it too much around here, and the times I did it was on a very poorly maintained vehicle. That or there was a defect in the painting and the owner never brought it up/got it fixed

Of course maintenance helps. Was wondering if there were any Gen 4 paint clear coat failures yet. I primarily see Nissan and Honda's around here with clear coat failure.

I can’t say my truck is in the Florida sun all day, but it does sit in the earth’s sun, all day, everyday it’s out. My truck lives outside, gets parked at a coal burner power plant 5 days a week, 200 yards from the coal pile with coal dust and fly ash falling on it. I have delta sonic unlimited for $20/month, and drive through the wash every day it’s not raining or snowing. Wax and seal once a year. Not one scratch or swirl mark on the clear.

My black 2017 has some funny looking swirls in the paint. Almost looks like a haze. Not sure if it is worth bringing it up for warranty.

None. Even my 03 15 yr old Ram has still has "good" clear coat.

I was gonna say my Ram is too new, but my 03 was still good when I got rid of it last October. It sat out its whole life. 100+ California summers. Hardly ever waxed the last 6 years of ownership. Somehow I don’t think I’ll be this lucky with my 4th gen. The paints they use today are all water based eco friendly garbage that doesn’t hold up.

My black '98 RAM 2500 had clearcoat failures on the driver's side rear door but that was it... It held up pretty good with just the occasional run through the car wash to rinse the mud off...

My '93 Bronco's paint is torn all the hell up from clearcoat failure... It almost looks like it was in a fire...

My white 2012 RAM 2500 looks clean so far... In a former life it was a Texas ranch truck so I'm sure the only time it got washed was when it rained... I had it super detailed when I bought it but now pretty much just wash it when I see some mud building up under the doors... So far so good!

In Houston, my 2o1o Sport De. Red had pretty fair clear considering. It had some Texas pin stiping (from driving thru the brush at the deer lease). The paint was worn off the drivers handle. The only failure point was on the front bumper. There was some clear coat failure there. I didn't wax often. Twice that I recall in the 8 years I owned it.

I kept my black Gen 3 outside in Florida for 15 years. No clear coat damage when I traded it Dec 2017. I kept it washed (most of the time) and even waxed it every year or so. Only blemish it had was caused by seagull sh*t that I did not notice until it had already etched that paint.
