Quick 40 series question

I've been calling around to muffler shops to get quotes about having a muffler put on. I talked to a local shop and they said they had a muffler that's the same as the 40 series, but isn't a flowmaster. Anyone heard of this? Is it a good idea? He said this other company (which I don't remember what it was) was able to start using the design because flowmaster had lost their patent a few years back...what do you think?

It's a Chinese knockoff. I'd run away from that shop for giving you bad advice.

Why don't you just do the Flowmaster Direct Fit?

Two reasons:
A) I've never done anything with an exhaust and have zero experience.
B) they're quite a bit more expensive from what I've seen, aren't they?

Summit offers single chamber mufflers as well. Lots of companies offer similar to flow master products.
I prefer straight through design versus chambered. You wanting loud as possible or just more than stock sound? Let us know what you're looking for and we can attempt to guide you. There are many exhaust opinions out there. YouTube is your friend here.

Thanks for the input! I think I've kind of gotten it narrowed down to either a 40 series or a super 44. Can't decide though...

The setup above was under $75 although my cousin did weld it for me and then we just clamped it in

$110 for the off-brand flowmaster w/ install. Said it saved 35.00 not going with the flowmaster. I'm not really concerned about saving the 35.00. I'm still a little hung up on which muffler to go with for sure really...

That's not bad. Just trying to make sure they aren't screwing you over too bad. That seems reasonable.

You probably spent more than $40,000 on your brand new truck and you are going to save $35 by going with the Chinese knock off.

Seems legit.

That's why I said I wasn't concerned about saving the 35.00. All I was initially asking was if anyone had heard of these feaux masters and if it was good idea.
