Quick question for those that have done the "H11 to H9" low beam conversion.

I haven't done this (yet) on my 2017 Ram 1500, but having had each of these types of lamps on other vehicles, the H9s seem to last about half as long as the lower wattage H11s.

I did it early when I got my 2015 Ram, its still on the road now as my company bought it with the H9's still in it. Great upgrade.

Good upgrade last as long as normal h11. Ran mine for 3 years before switching to HID. I'm sure they still work.

Most bulbs have a life expectancy on the package. My basic Sylvania $15 bulbs have something like a 200hr service life. The hotter the bulb the less life but the generic ones were a significant enough improvement i don't really need much more light. For inclement weather I'll be getting Amber led fogs but for now it is ok....high beams are still dog **** tho

I also did this conversion to my 2017 RAM initially before switching to HIDS and although I didn't run them for very long I also switched my parents 2015 Explorer to the 9012's at the same time and they're still going strong 2 years and at least 25K miles later. Its a worthwhile upgrade for the little amount of money it costs.

Are the H9's are a "plug & play", or does the plug need to be trimmed ?

Here ya go. Minor trim or get the adaptor plug. It's literally like 3 mins of trimming with a fresh razor knife. 03167ad4b0a5e1bb321ca2fc4cefb4d1.jpg

Got 'er done. I did the driver's side first and then turned them on. Even though it's sunny out right now, you could tell a BIG difference vs. the passenger's side. I can't wait until my ride home from work tonight to try them out.

Also, there is no need to remove the plastic radiator cover thingy or the grille. I came up with this idea. It made re-installing that lower bolt that's way down there as easy as could be.

Just a single wrap of electrical tape holding the bolt to the socket.

My radiator cover is permanently removed, via impatience! Grill stays put, even with busted retainer clips. Makes front end tear downs quick

I used a cordless Dremel with a skinny carbide bit. On both the metal tab and the plastic inside the socket. I wore surgical gloves in case I accidentally touched the glass. When it was done, I blew the shavings off really well with an air nozzle. It literally just took a minute to do each one.

Yea, DO NOT TOUCH THE BULBS. I used good side cutters to snip the metal tabs and shaved the plastic. Dremel would have been perfect.

I know there seems to be plenty of people doing the H11 to H9 conversion. Before i jump into the bandwagon i'd like to say i did my research :) Do we have a glare cap built into the headlight housing ? asides from the power differences, the H9's don't have the H11 glare cap in the bulb itself but ive read the conversion is ok if the cap is built into he housing... is that the case with the 1500's quad housing ? I see people doing the Amazon led bulbs with the standard headlight housings and stating "they are fine" lol, So it's scary to think the definition of "fine" can have such a gap between what's good and what's wrong.
I have the Phillips Extreme vision H11 in my Amazon cart, $21 for the pair, 2 H9's will be $14, nothing to shave in with the H11's, i've seeing comparos between the two an i have to say i'm inclined to do the performance H11 as the price is just $7 more, should last about the same, but the optics in the H11 seem to be better? not power output but optics/reflection etc.

I've had zero issues with any glare. My biggest concern was blinding oncoming traffic, or others on the highway in front of me. I DESPISE people with LEDs in reflector housings. Light everything but the road they are driving down. I'll post a picture of my cut off tonight but it's exactly the same as my h11. I'm not sure if it's in the housings our the bulbs but I made sure I didn't light wash surrounding traffic. I'm just running cheapo h9 bulbs

Mine are adjusted properly and I havent been flashed yet or gotten the finger from the driver in front of me. And I run Silverstars 5100k.
the quads are true reflectors. The top of the bulb whether it is a H9 or H11 is blocked to straight ahead view when in the housing.
10x safer than these tards with poorly designed, el cheapo LED’s scattering light everywhere because they don’t know to clock them correctly.
No offense to those with properly mfg/designed led, theres a difference.

The Ram Quad headlights have the glare cap built right in, so the H9s not having the cap doesn't matter in this situation.

I thought about doing the highs, while I had it apart, but I live and work on the city, so I pretty much never use my high beams.
