R47 - Safety Recall - Side Curtain Airbags / (DS) 2014 - 2015 Ram 1500 Quad Cab Pickups

I searched around and didn't see a thread specific to this recall, thought I'd start on for others searching. I'm also curious is anyone is having the problems I'm having getting this done.

Made an appointment and took mine in last Thursday morning. According to the paper I got from FCA it should take 2 hours, service adviser calls later in the day and tells me the computer says 9+ hours.

Annoying for sure, but I didn't have any immediate need for my truck so I told them sure they can keep it overnight.

Friday they've got the entire headliner out and broke some clips which weren't included in the recall kit. So now it's staying until Monday.

No call Monday, I'll be calling them first thing this morning.

Anyone else get this done? Did it take 2 hours or 9 hours?

I'm still on the waiting list to getting this done.

If it's going to take 9 hours does anyone know if the dealer needs to provide a loaner vehicle? I live and work about 45 mins away from my dealer.

They offered me one, I think that if it's going to be over night generally you'll be offered a loaner.

I've been poking around the net trying to find anyone else that's had this done and so far no reports of it taking the claimed 2 hours that the recall notice has... although it does mention it could take longer if the airbag isn't positioned correctly.

It should be noted that the dealer I took mine to is primarily a Jeep dealer.. however headliner removal and recall work like this should be fairly easy for any competent mechanic.

Just off the phone with the service adviser, mine is done they're sending the courtesy shuttle to pick me up.

Nearly 3 full days in the shop is a far cry from 2 hours the notice claimed! And that was without any actual problems...

I found someone on another forum that said they can check the airbags and install the foil patches without fully removing the headliner and all of the trim. Whether that's acceptable or not.. I don't know.

Back and all's good, no odd squeaks or noises.. Seems they did a fine job, albeit slow.

That is a long time. there is a crazy amount if plastic clips and things that you would rather have them replace than just not put back in there. But the recall only pays 2.5 hours. Should have been back sooner.

Indeed.. I was in no hurry to get it back (although 2 more days and I'd be complaining to someone), just imagine people who need their truck on a daily basis!

I had the side air bag, the steering wheel wiring recall done in one day. It took them the full day and I had to pay $25 to use a dealership loaner to get to work. I could have taken there shuttle for free but I did not have time to wait around for it.

If you read through the instructions, it's a lot of steps but doesn't seem like all that much work. I would think any competent mechanic could get the tear down done in 4-5 hours the first time... pretty sure I could and I'm just barely competent ;-)

Wow either my dealership is awesome or I didn't have the same recall done, mine was at the dealership less than 2 hours for the side airbag recall.

Just got mine back, dropped it off at 9 got it back at 3

fyi not very happy,

These are pics of the passenger side

So took it home, opened the door and saw the black weather seal all fubared, i say whatever shrug it off and tuck it back in - almost 50% of the driver side was not tucked - also the b pillar plastic cover was not locked in - i popped it in while correctly re-seating the weather seal.

Jumped over to the passenger side, even worst...... Now 75-80% not tucked in, the top headliner is drooping beyond the weather stripping, and again the B pillar not popped in.

Monday morning is going to be a fun call with the service advisor, and it may get escalated to his manager.

I used to be a mercedes tech, considering this was warranty work and the tech left the truck the way it was presented to me means hes doing this to every other truck he touches.

They were lucky I picked up my truck in a hurry, they had it parked against a fence, so i couldnt even open the passenger door and look at anything, and my driver door was opened into the service driveway exit - so I didnt do any inspection and drove off and left in a hurry.

Bottom line - they did not treat my truck like it was theirs, $35k is my hard earned $ and they put it back together half assed.....

Being warranty work is even worst, I loved warranty work as a tech - you do the same **** over and over again. I just cant believe this type of workmanship is done at a factory dealership. Its as if the tech took off my tires and when he put them back on, never torqued down the wheels - all of my interior was reinstalled 1/2 assed, which automatically leads me to believe the entire job was 1/2 assed.

That's not good. I hope mines better it's not from a recall. I did find my seat belt connector behind the trim panel. The bodyshop tech laughed and got it out. I picked it up at dusk and it was parked outside, cold and getting dark. I'll be checking it over in the morning.

I had all three recalls, an oil change, a TCM flash and an exhaust noise fixed all in the same day...

By now most of the techs have figured out short cuts and do not need to do all of the steps listed out. That's why you're hearing of people getting them back so fast.

Yeah, the dealer did all three of mine in one day. They also did a couple of other small jobs for me that same day with no problem with time. The service advisor made a good point when he said that they got slammed by the rental car companies right away because they couldn't rent the Rams out otherwise. Also, he said that they had to do all the effected Ram trucks on the lot asap. By the time i showed up with my Ram they had 20 Rams already. The tech did not remove any seats. He didn't even disconnect the 3rd brake light from the headliner. Just removed enough trim to drop the headliner enough to inspect the side airbags and add the foil tape. He did still manage to get my ridiculously light colored headliner dirty. I wouldn't leave until they had it ALL cleaned off.

Good for you Sir !
I plan to take pics of my immaculate interior and print off copies to give to the SVC mgr prior to dropping off my truck , so they know what I expect upon pick up of my truck !
I'd recommend others to do the same !
