I am looking to hardwire my radar detector in my 2014 express to come on with the key. I do have the manual mirror (tab on the bottom flips the mirror up/down) but it does have what I believe to be a microphone (hump on the top right side of the mirror.) I cant seem to find a concrete answer on whether or not I can use a invisicord or something to that effect for my cobra detector. Can anyone clear this up for me? possibly link me to a good cord for my application, and how do you safely remove the plastic bezel behind the mirror to access the wiring?

you have lost me on exactly what you are trying to do, but I hardwire all my radar detectors in all my vehicles. in my previous jeep I just taped into the fuse box (really easy) and the wife's van I just ran it from in the dash, under the console into the lighter plug. cant see a single wire on either of them.

I want to do just a short run of wire with no wires showing and was hoping to tap into the rear view mirror like many others have, but I don't know if I can because my mirror doesn't auto dim

Oh ok. I never heard of doing it like that, seems a lot harder than just tapping into the fuse box. Ill let someone else chime in on that.

If your mirror has a wiring harness running to it then the pink/yellow wire is the +12V when the truck is ON. I tapped into it and ran a short stretch of wire to my detector which is four or five inches below the bottom of the mirror base.

Yea if you have the harness connected on it just order you a mirror tap kit....it very simple to install. Just don't pull your mirror off like I did trying to get the black housing off

Not to hyjack, but whats a good cheap brand detector

Your foot. Lol all jokes aside, I've always been told you get what you pay for when it comes to radar detectors.

To the OP: Worst case scenario, extend your power and ground wires, tuck the wires under the headliner, down the a-pillar and under the dash to your KEY cig plug.

This how I always run mine. Run the wire down the dash and into the fuse box. Very easy. I even got a complement from a cop on how it blends into the dash and he couldn't see it. Lol. Also note I bent the brackets so the mount is behind the detector for a more stelthy install.

Wouldn't that (even slightly) effect the antenna of the detector?

not at I have noticed. that thing detects radar way down the road!!! the radar bubble on the back is all the way to the side so the bracket doesn't interfere with it.

In my G8 I have a blend mount and invisicord, it allowed me to mount and power it directly off of the rear view mirror. I am looking to do this for my truck as well. Need to some investigating.
