My 17 has developed an issue with the AM/FM radio where it doesnt get signal and seems to be getting feedback somewhere. The noise is not a static like inbetween channels. Its a screech. I never listen to AM/FM so its not that big of a deal but kind of annoying when the radio defaults to AM/FM. Any ideas?

This guy may be able to help

Dos the sound very with the RPM of the engine? Any sort of “clicking” noise from the speakers as you drive down the road.? Think of running a stick down a picket fence

RPM doesn't make a difference or while driving. It just screeches every couple seconds like in waves. Screech screech screech...1..2..3..Screech screech screech etc. Ive tried cleaning the antenna socket with electronic cleaner but it hasnt helped.

Ive always just listened to music through USB and Bluetooth and just noticed this recently. No telling how longs its been this way.

Do you use LED or HID lights in headlights or fog lights?

No still using Halogen bulbs
Ok, disregard then.

The only other thing I can think of is to try cleaning your factory grounds.

Sounds like the filters in the radio might be bad. Extreme heat or sat for a long time? Could be interference also. Have you recently installed any electronics in the vehicle? Does your truck have the 120v inverter?

Stock antenna I’m assuming, can you see the antenna wire?

It went a few months with the antenna not installed after going through a car wash. Truck has been driven every day, never sits. No aftermarket electronics. Yes it has a 120v inverter.

Ive looked but cant see antenna wire from under hood.

I recently had the head unit out while installing trailer brake controller (problem was already present) I verified all connections to head unit were good when reinstalling.

Have you pulled the antenna off to see if there is any rust on the connection part?

I know that has happened before with some other vehicles I’ve had.

Next step would be to check and see if you can find the cable, pull anything off you need to get to it. Look for nicks or frays anywhere. Or water inside of the connection at the fender.

Is the 120v inverter on all the time or rarely used?

I didnt see any rust or corrosion in the antenna connection threads but i cleaned it with electronic cleaner anyways.

120v has only been used once.

Have you tried listening to the radio with the truck off? That may help isolate the issue.
