can anyone confirm..

with the 3.0, 5.0, 8.4a, 8.4an NON alpine the amp is internal to the radio correct? and truly a summing device is not needed?

only on the 8.4 WITH alpine its needed correct?

im on another orum for my 2015 200s and somebody is trying to say the alpine and non alpine of the 8.4an is the exact same without the extra speakers.

The radios are the same. There are only three versions of the 8.4.....VP4 NA (Noth America) This is the one you want for the U.S. it features Real Time traffic. The VP4 CA (Canada) it does not have real time traffic and the VP4 ROW (rest of world) There is no special radio for the Alpine system if that's what you're asking.

Don't they put the amp underneath the steering wheel area? Couldn't you just pop your head down there and see if there's an amp there or not?

I believe you can. I think one of the vendors actually sells the alpine kit.

It would probably be better to perform the MOPAR Kicker upgrades. Many say it is much better than the OEM "premium" system. 4.1 app should be announced at SEMA this weekend reportedly which will complete this plug and play option.

FWIW, all of the radios put out a typical signal regardless if alpine or not. The issue with the Alpine is that the volume knob control is mapped to the amp, not the HU and that is where issues begin.

If I recall correctly, the amp also hosts the audio from the phone and system interface which presents issues with other factory features so simply tapping the lines before the Alpine amp will give less than desired results.
