So follow up. Contacted Ram Cares and spoke with Tierra. She contacted my dealer Brunswick Auto Mall Ram and was told they will not do the work. She stated the service manager was rude and argued with her. He advised her to tell me to go else where. Mind you I have never even argued with these guys. She contacted another dealer and they advised they would do the swap no problem. She sent them the part and when they get it they will call to set up the appointment. I did contact the General manager at Brunswick Auto Mall and was advised by him that Ram Cares can not authorize the repair and that has to come directly from Ram Tech. These people at this dealership are a disgrace to the industry. This is my first Ram and may be my last after this. In the mean time I will wait to see if the other dealership even calls me to set up the appointment. A lot of getting the run around here. Disgusted.

So the general manager called me back. He told me he spoke with the reginal tech rep and that my truck doesn't qualify for the updated drag link. I explained that Tierra has ordered the part in at another dealership and they have told her they would do the work. He did not have an explanation for that except to say wait and see if it actually gets replaced. A total ****. This will more then likely be my last RAM.

At the dealer now getting the updated drag link installed. Bob with Ram Cares is who I dealt with. Also Customer service agent Dynasty. Between the two I'm getting the updated drag link and alignment at FCA expense. No welding on my truck! Took about a week and a half from first contact with Ram Cares till the dealer got the authorization.

Bob and Dynasty were great to work with. I was going to pay out of pocket then try to get reimbursed. But decided to contact Ram Cares to see if they'd eat it. Dealer was no help at all. I had to do everything to get it approved.

Update: rolled out of the dealer at no cost to me with the upgraded drag link and alignment. Next step will be to make sure the recall gets closed out.

Earl
How do you get it closed out? I bought the new drag link and had it installed by a local independent shop. I paid out of pocket, and then sent the receipts to FCA. They reimbursed me for the whole enchilada. But I am still getting recall notices.

It's crazy so many people are still having issues with this. I had the cost of a synergy drag link reimbursed within a few weeks of supplying the info. This was over a year ago, I fully expected a fight but nope super simple.

I think personality differences plays a part and dealerships not on the same page as corporate.
Dealing with either is not worth the time to me.

Because it was done at the dealer and authorized by FCA with a case number assigned at FCA's expense. Customer service said my recall will be closed out within 30 days. So I will wait and check to be sure.

Only the dealer can close out the recall by inspection of the drag link. If replaced with aftermarket or the upgraded Chrysler drag link, the dealer should close out the recall after inspecting it.

Well, mine is in the shop as we speak having the ABS module replaced. I'll ask them to look at the drag link and sign off on it.

Had the draglink spot welded about a year ago. Recently I noticed unusual wear on the outer edge of a tire and had the dealer check the alignment. Looked fine.

I was not so sure as some folks here say the Ram aligment spec are rather loose. Today I called an alignment shop here in Tulsa. He was aware of the drag link issue and said he has had some jobs where couldn't do the aligmnent because he couldn't adjust the drag link.

Is this true?

You probably just need the toe set to 0 or as close to 0 as possible. I had outside tire wear on mine and had it aligned at a shop. They cut the tack weld did the alignment and rewelded it after they were done. I was still getting outer tire wear so after reading up on thurens specs for aligning the HD trucks I set the toe to 0 myself. Steering wheel stayed where it was before so I didn't have to touch the drag link. Tires are wearing a lot more even now. Look up the thuren specs and if nothing else just have the shop set the toe to 0. They won't have to mess with the drag link then.

I'm still waiting for a specialist from ramcares to contact me about getting my drag link replaced.

When I had an alignment done on my 18 2500 with the weld, they charged me extra because they had to cut the weld. They would not re-weld it, used some loctite instead. Ram says it can only be welded once. So once the weld is cut, that puts you in line for the updated recall replacement part. It can be a little painful getting it done, as evidenced by this thread, but I feel better about having the updated part.

Hi bartbill,
We recommend getting an alignment done at a certified Ram dealer.

Thanks.

Had the alignment done at the Ram dealership in Pueblo CO. I guess they are certified. Seemed like the uneven wear continued.

Rotated the front tires to the rear (the one with the feathered outer edge). I'll watch closely.

Glad some of you have resolved your issues, I`m still waiting for a manager to contact me (despite being assured one would contact me promptly) about my drag link snafu!

I'm not sure the dealer solved anything. Not 100% sure I have a problem. Will keep an eye on it.

Thanks much for your followup.

Well after 6 phone calls to the Rep “Tierra” who ordered my part I have yet to get a phone call back to set my appointment to have the drag link installed. I keep getting the same run around she is busy we will have her call you. How is this Ram cares when it seems they really don’t. I am beyond pissed at this point and will never buy another Ram product again considering the customer, well lack of customer service.

Keep in mind the RamCares reps are at the mercy of your local dealer on appointment scheduling. My rep told me the service manager wouldn't answer her calls. She persisted for like 2 months but finally got an answer to setup the appointment. The dealerships are independent businesses and FCA does not have as much control over the day to day operations of a particular dealership as some might think.

I know on mine, Ram Care went thru 4 different dealers before one said they would do. Talked with my original dealer, their issue was they didn't want to wait on payment, if they did paperwork correctly it was a month, if did wrong multiple. The dealer that did it, said the would do all at, easy money since others refused.
Took her about 3 week's total, 2 days after I told her I could travel any direction, she was trying to keep me close to original dealer.
In the end all worked out and NO welding.
